I signed up for the SAT reasoning test online at the College Board website. I freaked out when the registration part asked me which colleges I would like to send my scores to. I've thought about it... but I didn't think it would ask me right now! I thought I was supposed to send my scores to colleges when I start APPLYING to colleges!

Am I supposed to put in the names of some colleges that I'm SORT OF deciding on? If the college gets my score, but I later decide not to apply to that, what do they do with my score?

Ah someone please help?

If you send scores somewhere and then decide not to apply, it’s no big deal. At least as far as I know.

If you wait and send them later, you have to pay ten dollars for each college.

You don’t have to choose any colleges right now to receive your scores, but if you have an idea on any you will definitely apply to, go ahead and list them in your SAT registration. You will save the future expense, as Egan Marie mentioned. A few years ago my D ended up sending her scores to several schools she never applied to, just because her list of schools changed a lot from jr to sr year.

For my S, who will take SATs for the first this month, we picked 4 schools from his list that were fairly good matches for him. We didn’t include his 2 reaches, in case he does not do very well on the test. If he does well, we can send those later. But if he doesn’t, we don’t have to worry that the reaches will see scores that he may improve on later.
