Sending Scores?

Not sure where to put this so I’ll leave it here.

Anyways, I’m sure we all know about College Board offering to send scores (AP and SAT) to a certain amount of colleges for free. But here’s the my dilemma, since the APs and the May SATs are coming up, I have no idea if I should decide send the scores or stay until I get my scores. My biggest issue is that I’m not exactly sure how colleges will get them? Basically, I haven’t chosen specific colleges that I want to go to or send my scores to, and I’m not sure how they will react to randomly getting my scores if they are good/bad/etc…

The free price tag is very tempting but I’m just really confused about the whole entire process. The $15 fee isn’t too bad, but if I can send them for free I should probably do so to save some money. I’m also wondering if the $15 fee is for every score you send or just to the amount of colleges? In the former situation, I mean like if I wanted to send say 3 APs and SAT plus 3 Subject tests to a college(s) would that cost me $105? For the latter, say I wanted to send all the above scores to 5 colleges, would that cost me $75?

Sorry if this has been answered before or if it’s stated clearly on their website. I’m just stressing out over the whole thing. I would probably choose to see my scores first before sending them anyways, but I just want some clarification on somethings. Thank you for taking the time to help me!

I would not send them. I’d also not agree to have my name on the lists sent to colleges. That way you retain control and don’t allow colleges to know how many times you have taken tests and when you started taking them.

Thanks for replying! That’s what I was planning to do anyways. I decided to skip on sending scores after I took the new March SAT but I wasn’t sure if I was making the right decision.

There is no reason to send AP scores to colleges now. AP scores are not required for admission to colleges. Some colleges consider them along with everything else in making an admisison decison but you only need to self-report the scores in your application for admisison or accompanying essay for that purpose. You don’t need to send official AP scores until after you are admitted and want college credit for the subjects for which you have AP test scores, and in that case you will be sending them only to the college you will have already chosen to attend.

Thus, the only scores to consider sending now are SAT and subject tests, and the only reason to send them using the tesrt registration’s free sends is to avoid the cost of sending later. If you are willing to bear that cost, you have no reason to send now as a free send. As to the cost of sending scores when you do not use the free sends, CB charges one fee per college, currently $11.25. For that one fee per college, you can send all SAT and subject test scores that CB has for you at the time of the send. Thus sending all your SAT and subject test scores to 5 colleges would cost $56.25, using current rate.

As to number of free sends you get, it is four for any test and you must designate the colleges by no later than the ninth day (a Monday) after taking the test. If you actually wanted to designate more than four in your test registration, you would pay that $11.25 for each college over the four free sends.

Thank you!! That clears up just about everything! I’ll just save my money and wait then. I’m glad though that the cost is cheaper than my guess of $15. This is mostly for my international applications because schools there require U.S students to send AP/SAT scores if applying. So thanks everyone! Feeling a lot better now!
