sending subject test scores to non-score choice schools

Hello, I’m planning to apply to some schools that don’t participate in score choice using my ACT score (36) but I also have subject test scores (Math II:800, US history:730, Physics:770) that I think would be beneficial to my application. However, due to the nature of non-score choice, I would also need to send in my 3 SAT sittings (best 2260) which aren’t as great as my ACT score. For the non-score choice schools (Duke, UC Berk, Emory) that don’t require subject tests with an ACT score, would it still be a good idea to send in my subject test scores with my SAT score or would it be better to just submit an ACT score?

Thanks in advance.

Emory allows score choice. UCs require all SAT test scores if you send any SAT test but you can choose to send ACT rather than SAT and can send any subject tests you want to send without sending SAT. Duke requires either all ACTs or alternatively both all SATs and subject tests. If you submit ACT and want to also submit any subject tests, then you have to send all SAT’s and all subject tests. In any event, you likely have no issue sending all scores to Duke or even the others since SAT score looks fine and all three use that test they believe is the better for you if you submit both SAT and ACT.

I don’t think it will hurt you to send the subject tests even if you have to send the SAT as well.

Ah, thank you for the quick responses!

I tried sending just subject test scores for UC Berk but Collegeboard automatically included my SAT scores to be sent as well. The top banner states that UC Berk requires all scores be submitted for review. It’s possible to uncheck the boxes for my SAT tests but there’s a popup that warns me that I’m going against this school’s score practices (something along those lines). Should I just uncheck all the SAT tests anyways and send?

No.

When a school requires that you send all your SAT scores or none, going against their policy gives them an excuse to reject you. They may also assume you got an 1800 (or something similar) and that’s why you didn’t send your SAT I. I don’t see any conceivable way this could work out well for you.

Nobody is going to reject you for having a 36 on the ACT and “only” a 2260 on your highest SAT. Relax.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, I think I’m going send all the scores.

Mistair, despote the warning given, CB does not prevernt you from exercising score choice and choosing not to send certain tests, and thus you can send subject tests and exclude sending that SAT test to a UC regardless of the warning given. Also, be aware that the UCs policy is that you are required to send all SAT’s if you choose to send one SAT, but you are not required to send SAT. You can instead send ACT and also send subject tests without sending any SAT. Moreover, the College Board system will give the warning for all SAT and subject tests if it believes the college has any rule requiring all SATs because CB does not try to figure out the actual rule that might apply and whether it actually applies to subject tests. Finally be aware, that CB has identified a lot of colleges as having an all scores rule, and thus gives a warning for them, despite that those college have no all scores rule.
