We are sending in ACT results- so that part is easy. It's the subject tests and score choice policies that are confusing me.

Columbia, Cornell & Dartmouth all require subject tests with the ACT, and they don't participate in score choice. They only require 2 subject tests. My son took 3. Do I have to send in all 3 since the third was taken on the same date as the other 2? Since I am sending in subject tests does that mean that I have to send in SAT reasoning? I'm not sure if I read it right but I sent in both the ACT dates results for all 3 schools.

UC schools- can I choose which subject tests to send or do I need to send in all tests on both test dates? Again, since I am using ACT, I don;t have to send in the SAT reasoning tests do I?

Tufts- same question- they don't require you to submit all scores but they request all sats- does that mean I should send in all ACTs as well?

With Dartmouth, you can send in a score report from the SAT which only contains the scores of the two SAT subject tests that you want them to see.

For the UC schools, send them a report that only contains the reports of the two SAT subject tests that you want them to see. You don’t need to send them SAT reasoning test scores.

I buzzed the Columbia application info and it says:

I take that to mean that you can use your score choice to only submit SAT subject test scores, but you must list all subject test scores from all sittings. You don’t have to submit SAT reasoning test scores.

I’ll leave it to you(or someone else) to research Cornell and Tufts information again on your own…

Subject test policies are very poorly written. IMO at a school that only requires two and you’ve taken three because you also applied to one of the few schools that require three - there’s no reason to send the third subject if the score is worse. If it’s in the same range, you might as well send it. Some schools like Columbia make it clear they want all the subject test scores, but at least last year they didn’t. You could call the admissions office for clarification if you want.

In general my son sent all his SAT1 scores which were similar anyway, but only some of his SAT subject test scores. (The highest in each subject and he didn’t send the one in math as that score was unexpectedly low.)

I believe the Columbia website is very clear:

"Columbia has always expected applicants to report all required standardized testing for which they have sat and will continue to do so for 2010-2011.The application review process for Columbia College and The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science is rooted in the belief that students are dynamic, multi-faceted individuals who cannot be defined by any single factor to determine their suitability for admission. When evaluating applicants, we consider only the highest testing results reported from individual sections of the SAT (or the highest Composite on the ACT), and the two highest required SAT Subject Tests, always seeking to give students the greatest opportunity to showcase their academic talents and hoping to make the testing experience as stress-free as possible. We encourage applicants to take those examinations no more than twice, but we do not penalize applicants for exceeding that recommendation.

Students should officially submit all scores from all sittings of the SAT and SAT Subject Tests. Students may submit only their highest ACT composite score officially and self-report other ACT scores by adding them to the Additional Information section of the application. While the College Board sends a cumulative record of all testing for one fee, the ACT requires separate fees for each test date; we do not want ACT takers to incur greater costs, so applicants may officially report only their highest ACT Composite (with subscores) and self-report all other ACT scores."

agree with above. Columbia requires ALL scores, particularly SAT. They will allow the highest ACT to be sent, for financial reasons, but SAT they are firm about. Besides, my understanding of score choice is that all SAT2’s taken on a given test date will be sent anyway, as the the choice is by DATE not by subject.

^Choice is definitely by subject AND date. On the website they have each test listed separately for each college and you check off the ones you want sent. You can send different ones to each college.
