Is it possible to send transcripts and teacher recs to a college before I send my actual application from CommonApp? I ask this because my school uses Naviance and my guidance counselor is the one to usually send my transcript and recs electronically. I want to know if I can submit those materials first so I have some extra time over winter break to complete my Jan. 1 deadlines.

Thanks.

Yes, the school will just hold on to them until your app arrives. Happens all the time.

So I don’t have to call the school or anything? I can just ask my GC to send it?

Call? Goodness no! The school will open a file for you with whatever pieces arrive first - doesn’t matter whether it’s your app, your rec’s, your transcript, or your test scores.

Thank you so much.

How do we go about sending these transcripts?
For Common Application schools, your guidance counselor will upload them for you as needed, once you inform him or her where you want them sent. Non Common Application schools will have their own procedures for your guidance counselor to follow.
Some high schools (ours included) will not send transcripts/recommendations until naviance shows that the Common App has been submitted. They don’t want to go to the effort, and then have students decide they’re not going to apply to that school after all.
Even if you submit your CommonApp on the deadline, it is OK for the transcripts/reccs to arrive later. Admission Officers get this question a lot; as long as these items are on the way in a reasonable period of time, your application is considered submitted on-time if they have the CommonApp.
But it is always better to be ahead of the game, as in NOT waiting until the last minute to submit.
@rahulk12 You should start a new thread with your question. Obviously your question is even different from this 2 year old thread.
