Sending unsolicited supplementary material

I’ve applied as an English major, and most of my ECs center around writing. I’ve also written a book which is one of my main accomplishments and I was wondering whether it would be a good idea to send it to the universities I’ve applied to.

Most colleges don’t want longer pieces of writing which is why I hadn’t thought to include it earlier. But I’m now I feel like I should send it to establish its legitimacy even if doesn’t end up being read. I have included a link to where it’s available online (not published), and I haven’t submitted a creative writing portfolio. Also if I do decide to send it, is it too late for it to be included in my application?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Don’t. They won’t have time to look at it.

Absent some kind of objective validation by a reputable third-party, there is likely little chance that this information will influence a college admissions decision. Outside of this process, congratulations! Writing a book/novel is hard (everyone thinks it’s easy until they try it themselves). You should personally celebrate yourself (and hopefully friends and family will too).

Agree, admissions officers are not looking for additional reading material right now. And they don’t need supplements just to verify what is on your application.
