NOT including supplemental material

Could it be detrimental to an application to not send in any supplemental material? In my ED app to Brandeis I only included 1 teacher recommendation; I had a supplemental letter from my superintendent but it really didn't say anything new and I definitely could have done without it. But, I had previously talked with my regional rep about sending in a creative writing supplement. I did not, because my essay was creative enough and my mother pressured me not to. If there is no hard data or extra-curricular achievement to indicate my intense interest in poetry, could this hurt my application? Consider that the rest of my stats are pretty bland. I'm only apprehensive because I've read books on college admissions that profiles students who send in an entire book of their writing, and that this apparently helped them.

I'm in that horrible purgatory between November 15 and December 15 where all I can do is worry. :)

If you have something good that shows who you are, send it in! Why would your mom talk you out of it?
