Sending Update Letters

My query is about updating applicants' profiles after sending in their applications. When is the best time to write to schools?

The goal is to get an admissions office's attention about new test scores, grades, etc., during its decision process.

Thanks!

What is it exactly you want to update? Schools have application deadlines for a reason.

Most schools require a mid-year grade report as well as final grades, so that process is in place. They will also tell you which SAT/ACT test dates they will consider. If December is the last test they’ll take, then there’s no point in sending them January scores.

The time to “update” your application would be before the application deadline passes, or after the decision–if you are waitlisted or want to appeal a denial. That’s when they ask for and are looking for your updates.
