Senior Class schedule Q for BC admittance

Hi everyone,

I have been battling back and forth with myself over whether to take Physics next year (senior yr). BC is my top choice for college and I already am aware that BC recommends four years of english, math, science, foreign language. However, I would be extremely surprised if the BC admittance office automatically cuts off an applicant because they haven’t fulfilled this prescribed class schedule. As someone who is planning on either applying to CSOM or A&S for economics or pol. sci. I don’t see the necessity for physics and how it would enhance my app in any way considering the majors and career paths I’m planning on pursuing.

Senior Class schedule currently:
AP Eng. Lit.
AP Psychology
CP Precalculus
two art classes, both one tri. (graduation req.)
PE class, one tri. (grad. req.)
Accounting (two trimesters)
CP Physics

If any recently admitted BC applicant could tell me what major they applied to and what classes they took (specifically physics) in HS it would be greatly appreciated!

What’s your intended major?

NEVERMIND! Sorry hahhaha I see now that you wrote economics. I got into biochem, for which physics is of course necessary. I wouldn’t do less than what they ask, however. Economics or not, they educate the entire person, not just the economics side…but I know what you mean.

Physics probably won’t serve your ultimate career interests, but BC is a liberal arts school and as such likes students who have a solid foundation in the fundamental curricula (math, science, language, english/writing, social studies). For example, I took AP Latin not because it would serve me in my future career, but because I knew that taking such a class would look favorably on me come admission time (make no mistake; I also enjoyed the subject very much).

Just take basic physics. I, myself, am in CSOM and have little passion for the sciences. I accordingly took zero honors / AP sciences during high school. Thus, it does not matter if you take AP or Honors Physics, but just complete the class. If you have to opt out of another class on your list to take physics, I would advise dropping accounting. 95% of HS accounting courses are over simplified because they are geared towards teaching students how to use accounting in a personal setting, not corporate accounting.

That’s my opinion, so take as you wish.

Its not physics per se that might doom your app, but your senior schedule which appears not-so-rigorous. Typically, a highly selective college wants to see five academics each year, and five of the standard disciplines. AP Psych is a so-called AP Lite, and a social science. Honors precalc if offered, would be better. What about History?

BC has a Core curriculum, and will require that you take courses in all of those five disciplines. If you are guy applying to CSOM, the rigor of your senior year will be noticed.

Well in reality this is the most rigorous course schedule I can pursue with the classes I have already completed. In sophomore year I took AP Euro History, and this year I’m taking both AP Language and AP Government. Since I’m not interested in taking AP science or math classes the only options for AP I have are Lit and Psych.

Blue bay I’m not sure you a recently admitted BC applicant, which is what I was requesting for responses. 12,800 posts makes it appear as if you don’t have anything else to do.

Thanks! I’m dropping the accounting class. Despite not loving sciences, I have done really well, grades wise, in them so I will take physics!
