Senior grades

How much of your senior grades does penn state see before making a decision? i'm really tanking this year so far and would like to know if i should be super worried. thanks.

I believe my son was asked for his first marking period and for his final grades to be sent. No really sure if finals were sent or if senior grades were used in the decision.

If you were admitted after your first marking period and you let your grades completely tank by the final marking period (D and F). There could be the chance that they could rescind your admittance to PSU. Just do the best you can. Why risk it?

My understanding is that they make their decision with the information they have. So if you apply prior to the end of the first grading period, you will be applying based on grades through junior year. But if you apply after, then your transcript will include the first marking period grades.
After admission, I believe that they only want confirmation that you graduated. I know a number of kids who went to psu this year and they were not asked for mid term grades. Just final confirmation of graduation.
That being said, it’s always a good idea to keep your grades up just in case…they can always decide to ask!

I’m pretty sure that my daughter’s counselor sent mid-year grades to PSU and her other colleges. She’s a junior at PSU, so maybe things are different now. I think they just want to make sure you aren’t blowing off senior year. I’m not sure if they would actually rescind an acceptance unless you had no explanation. Most kids’ senior year is pretty tough because of increased class rigor and I would think they are understanding. It’s probably more a problem is you go from A’s/B’s to D’s and failing. They go through about 120,000 applications each year and I think they’ve seen it all. Relax and good luck!
