Yes it’s easy
Pretty easy. 2/10. Why do you have only 5 courses?
Are you only taking 5 classes for senior year? Is your English class just a regular course, and not Honors or AP? Yes, your schedule looks fairly easy. Most competitive colleges require that you take at least 5 classes in your senior year, so you are at the minimum. Depending on the colleges that you’re applying to, only taking 5 classes (with the overall rigor you stated) may hurt your chances.
Yeah I think it’s easy. You’re taking 5 classes and 2 of them are not core classes. You should definitely continue to take PE and Choir but you should take more classes at the honors level
I finished all my courses, and my school doesn’t offer anything else. I took AP English last year and honors English the year before. I took all honors classes for science except biology, then again my school doesn’t offer honors bio or ap bio in 12th grade.
Any course suggestions?
If that’s the case, I highly recommend taking online courses or classes at the local community college.
@Hamlon
If I take courses at my community college, would that count as college credit, and I could skip that course as a GE?
Or is it just an extra course for high school?
I think it’s easy. Taking college courses could be a good idea.
It depends on your high school, but you would definitely have college credit. The problem is if your future college accepts transfer credit. Just look at your high school’s dual credit policy and be mindful of the policies your college has in place.
@Hamlon
If I take courses at a CC as well as my high school, would I be a transfer student or a regular undergrad?
What is transfer credit?
I am really new to this process, first in my family to go to college here.
Appreciate your help.
It depends on the college, but as long as you take under a certain number of credit hours you can still apply as an undergraduate. Just do a quick search of the credit policies for each school you plan on applying to.
Talk to your HS guidance counselor about getting HS dual credit for taking college classes at the CC.
If you cant get credit that shows up on your transcript, then do online classes instead. What you DONT want to do is independently register at college - that can mean you may be treated by other colleges as a transfer student, instead as a freshman applicant.
“It depends on the college, but as long as you take under a certain number of credit hours you can still apply as an undergraduate.”
that is NOT true. Colleges use National Student Clearinghouse to check if students have enrolled at colleges- classes taken independently of HS can mean the student can and in most cases will NOT be treated as a freshman.
That is why is it important that any college classes you do take while in HS do show up on your transcript.
@menloparkmom I was talking about dual credit while in high school. It really depends on the college. Some consider you a transfer if you took college classes after high school and others after you’ve reached a certain number of credits. Taking two or three college courses before you get your high school diploma will not make you a transfer applicant.
What about Loyola Marymount University? Lets take that for example.
@Hamlon - What would you say about LMU accepting dual credit?
@menloparkmom - Would you disagree that I would be considered a freshman at LMU if i took college courses at a CC
Taking two or three college courses before you get your high school diploma will not make you a transfer applicant.
agreed.
the OP needs to see if he can do dual credit with the local college.
I talked with my highschool. They said that I can’t put my CC courses on my high school transcript and that they have to be 2 separate transcripts. How does this work?
uh oh. hmmmmmmmm.
So they dont have a dual enrollment agreement with the college? did you ask that specifically ? Because its summer maybe you should wait to talk to the head of the counseling office. Surely they have had this kind of situation occur in the past?
If the answer is no dual enrollment is possible, then ask your guidance counselor if he will mention in his letter of recommendation that you are taking X classes either at at the local CC or online AND that you have taken the most rigorous classes offered at your HS.
I think the safest bet for you is to find online AP HS classes to take.
@menloparkmom
Sorry, but I do not understand you. My school is starting in 5 days. I don’t understand what dual enrollment is.
I will ask my counselor to write that i took classes at CC in my recommendation letter.
