I'm interested in doing into pharmacy, dental, or vet in college. I'm taking AP Calculus AB as a junior this year and getting As. I am taking AP Statistics, AP Bio, and AP Chem next year. I have one spot where I must choose between Organic Chem (an honors course) or AP Calculus BC. Which of these two would be more beneficial for my fields? Would taking BC after AB be redundant?

I think AP Chem > OChem Honors, so take BC.

i agree . take BC .

How is AP Chem>OChem. Organic chemistry is wicked hard. It’s a weeder in a lot of universities.

I simply say so because OChem is a part of AP Chem, and, while not as comprehensive as probably a course like OChem Honors would provide, it at least has OChem along with a wide variety of chemistry related topics, which would look better. Or so I assumed.

^ Organic Chemistry, if at the difficulty normally taught at colleges, is significantly harder than AP Chem. One should have in-depth knowledge of AP Chem before taking Organic Chem.

I’m leaning toward BC now since taking 3 science courses might be overkill I’m told. Would it be redundant to take it though since I’m acing AB right now? That’s my real concern.

Self-study BC and take orgo if you really want to impress colleges and you don’t mind getting your brain blown out regularly.

Otherwise, take whichever one is less stressful. Colleges aren’t going to kill you because you didn’t take <ridiculously hard=“” class=“”> instead of <medium difficulty=“” class=“”>, and you’ll probably have to take organic chemistry in college anyway.</medium></ridiculously>

I’m confused by what you mean by AP Chem > OChem. I’m taking AP Chem no matter what, and you don’t need to take AP Chem as a prerequisite to OChem. Difficulty wise both Calc BC and OChem would be about the same at my school. (save for the fact that OChem has labs so it will be a bit more work) I could also take Honors Genetics to fill in the period, but I’m not sure if Genetics is really that relevant to the programs I’m aiming for?
