Hi, I'm currently a junior in High School that's considering applying to Caltech. Next year I'll have the option of taking AP Computer Science. My current senior schedule looks like this:
AP Physics
AP Gov/Econ (We The People)
English Literature
Jazz Band
AP Calculus BC
AP German V

My question is this: will not taking AP Computer Science have a noticeable effect on my chances of admission? I've already taken numerous science courses (AP Chem, AP Bio, Computer Science) and will be taking 11 APs total with the current schedule, but should I drop Jazz Band in favor of AP Computer Science so my senior schedule is more science-oriented? I'd really like to keep Jazz Band in my schedule because I've been heavily involved in music for my entire life and don't want to spend my senior year obsessing over academics that may or may not have a noticeable effect on my college apps. Feedback would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

If you like Jazz band and have been involved with it for a long time, keep jazz band. If you are dropped APCS for jazz band because you dont want to work hard that will not only be bad for admissions but in that case why would you want to deal with the Core?

I’m not dropping APCS for jazz because I want a easy senior schedule - I’m doing it because I only have 6 schedule slots and I have to decide between the two. On the one hand, I’m really into music, but on the other, APCS will be more relevant in the future. My main concern is how admissions will interpret the schedule - will they see it as merely me not wanting to work hard? If I could take both at the same time I’d do so, but my school doesn’t offer that many class slots :S.

AP Computer Science is kinda a joke anyways (at least it was 4 or 5 years ago when I took it) I know it depends on who you have teaching it, but the standards are really easy
