Senior Stress

I have never been this stressed before. My classes have become harder all around (most of them are not my strengths) and I have to struggle to keep up with all of them. Besides all of that, I have to write all these stupid essays! Despite this time being the most important time in high school, I have become quite lazy.

Seniors, what are you doing to relieve your stress and stay energetic?

I wonder if I am the only one who is actually struggling right now.

I reward myself with little things - when I finish a big assignment, I’ll treat myself to a fancy drink from Starbucks and a pastry (which is considered a luxury for me.) I mean, I don’t have the most rigorous schedule out there - only 3 APs, two of which are easy (AP Lit and Gov.) and one Dual Enrollment course at the local CC which is also pretty easy. When it comes to stress though, I just tell myself that everything is going to work itself out one way or the other.

As for college essays - we’re working on those in AP Literature. All senior english classes dedicate a month or so to working on college essays and we get graded for them and whatnot, so that we aren’t overwhelmed by them along with our regular work.

It’s a lot harder than junior year was. I felt like I never did anything last year. Now I’m just powering through it one day at a time. My cross country coach started doing two-a-days this year and my days are sometimes 13 hours long before I even start homework. I figure there’s only about 50 days left until November. By then, I’ll be done with applications and cross country. I can do this for 50 more days, but I don’t think I could do it for much longer than that.

I wish my AP literature teacher devoted time to college essays! That would be very helpful. I am considering dropping one of my classes to a lower level, but that is a hard decision for me. I wouldn’t know what to replace it with and whether it is a good idea to drop the class.

Haha, I agree that I felt like I did nothing junior year.

If it’s any comfort to you, I just spent the past two days typing 10+ pages for my math homework. And I’m not done with it.

What class is this for? It better be some serious proof-writing.

Intro to Number Theory, at a local-ish university (which isn’t very good, and I’d disparage it right now except for their classes are hard).
There are lots of proofs (also some disproofs, because God is merciful), but it’s also partially because I’m never as concise as I should be.

I think senior and junior year are both stressful, but in different ways. Junior year you’re taking harder classes so you have a bunch of HW plus studying and extracurriculars.
But senior year, you’ve (hopefully) learned how to somewhat handle that but now you’re facing stress about the future and who you identify as. I’d say senior year, at least first semester, is more stressful for me.

Not true in my case.
I took harder classes senior year with the idea that I could just learn stuff and get the full benefit of the “challenging classes” without having to worry quite as much about my grades. I still can’t tell if it was a good decision or not.

I’m not done with testing, so I had testing, college apps, and school (6 AP classes) on my plate right now. Meh…
