I’m current a junior and we are picking out senior classes next week. I am definitely taking AP Lit, AP US Gov, AP Stat, as well as AP Macro & AP Micro (combined.) That leaves me one extra period to decide what to do with. I can either take AP Art History or a science elective like Microbio. I did take high school earth science in the eighth grade, so I will have four years of science… just not all when I was legitimately in high school. I am applying to highly selective colleges as an English major. I work at the Guggenheim & think AP Art would nicely complement that, but I go to a STEM school and I’m insecure about sacrificing the science. Thoughts?
Take whichever one interests you/is aligned to your potential major or career/has the better teacher, etc. 4 years of science vs. 5 will not make a difference to any college, particularly for a non-STEM student.
Great! I wasn’t sure if it would be looked at differently because my four years were from 8th to 11th, not 9th to 12th. Thanks! @skieurope
It’s super cool that you work at the Guggenheim!
Thanks! I’ve been involved with their education department since June. @Nzb2018
Late response but I’m not taking a science next year either. I’m taking another history elective (4 semester courses) because it’s what I’m interested in and generally supports my application. I also just have no desire to put myself through another year of chem or bio or physics when I could be studying something I love. So that’s my take on it, but you should do what you think is best for you!
Thanks! I’ve decided to either take AP Psychology or AP Art History, depending on which fits into my schedule. @politicsdancegal
