Senior Year Classes

I am in the IB Diploma programme, and applied at UC for EA and was accepted.

For the science requirement, I took physics. I felt okay about the subject, but I didn't feel too great-- I managed with a B+/A- average. In turn, for my senior year, I dropped IB1 Physics (a 2-year course) and took IB Environmental systems (a 1-year course, similar to IB Biology), for the sake of not taking the IB Physics exam in May... because I never felt entirely confident about the subject. I received in A first semester, and the rest of my grades were just as fine.

Anyway, I was wondering whether UC would look badly at this. Environmental systems is heavily easier than Physics. I didn't "cake up" my whole senior year schedule - I still have the Six IBs, including HL math (an arduous one!). When I submit a midyear report, and they see that I dropped physics... will they really care?

On a side note: Neither class has to do with my major/minor choices whatsoever.

Thanks for any insights...

congrat's on your acceptance! As long as you have not done anything really egregiously bad academically, you will be fine. They are not going to have the time to minutely analyze admitted student's midyears.

You dropped Physics after you submitted your application? And didn't tell them? Doesn't your school transcript have your current registered courses on it? Did you drop it after the transcript went out?

I have trouble believing that you managed that. If someone were really paying attention, and you really dropped a core course right after sending in all your papers, he or she might be a little miffed. I don't think it's anywhere near grounds for rescinding your acceptance, so I wouldn't worry about it. But it seems a little sleazy to me. Not dropping the course -- I'm sure your reasons made lots of sense -- but dropping the course at such a strategic time (if, of course, you really did that) and not informing the colleges to which you applied (if, of course, the papers accompanying your application didn't already let them know).
