Hey I am going to be a junior in HS and have basically planned out what my courses are going to be the next 2 years but since you apply for college near beginning of senior year, how do you let colleges (I am looking at Northwestern and Washington University in St. Louis) now about your senior year classes and also what grades you are potentially going to get and also on the AP tests? I am planning on taking 5 AP classes senior year but those scores and final grades wont be in long after being accepted (or denied).

Thanks, I am trying to understand everything.

Take a look at the common app: there is a section where you list all the classes you are taking the year you apply.

It’s true that a college won’t know your end-of-the-year grades before they send their decision, but many will revoke admission if you do poorly on classes your senior year.

Ok thanks, that makes sense

Colleges will want to see that you’re continuing to challenge yourself. Colleges to which you’ve applied regular decision will see your first semester senior grades. But AP scores don’t really influence your application; they mostly are good for placement.

Junior year is the most important year of all. Focus on doing well. Admissions officers look a lot at trends. If you have upward trends into your junior year, they can only assume you’ll continue to do well in senior year.
