I’m currently a Junior, so I’m not only looking into colleges, but I’m also deciding on my senior year classes. So far in high school I’ve taken:
Freshman- Algebra 2 Trig Honors, English 1 Seminar, World History Seminar, French 2 Honors, Physics Honors
Sophomore- Precalc Honors, English 2 Honors, AP Psych, French 3 Honors, Chem Honors
Junior- AP Calc BC, AP English Lang, US History, French 4 Honors, Bio Honors
This year has been really overwhelming for me, since although I’m not taking more honors/AP than sophomore year, the classes are are more rigorous. I’m also very involved with extracurriculars so I don’t have the time to spend on hours of work a night. I want to take easier classes next year, but I also don’t want to seem like I’m slacking off for colleges. Some schools I’m looking into are University of Southern California, University of Wisconsin Madison, Boston College, Villanova University, University of Illinois, and University of New Hampshire. I’m in state for Illinois. I have a 31 ACT and 4.3 weighted/3.69 unweighted GPA from freshman and sophomore years, but it’ll be a little lower after this semester. I’m thinking of taking AP Environmental Science, AP Euro or AP Econ, Immigrant Voices or Contemporary Lit (regular level english classes), AP Stats, and possibly another class. What do you guys think of these courses? Is it too easy of a course load for senior year?
So what are you taking during your senior year?
APES and AP Stats are “AP lites”, so together they should generate about the same amount of work and difficulty as BC all by itself, but check with upperclass students in case they are taught especially rigorously at your HS.
Ap Euro is harder than AP Econ and is a “core” AP, so I’d advise you take it.
Immigrant Voices sounds really interesting. You should definitely have another class or two!

Finally University of Wisconsin Madison and University of New Hampshire are both OOS public universities so don’t expect any financial aid. Note that some universities (UMinnesota Twin Cities, UAlabama Tuscaloosa, Temple…) offer merit scholarships that may make them cheaper than UIUC.
No matter what, run the Net Price Calculator on EVERY university to see what your net price would be, then show the results to your parents and see what universities are affordable. I
