Since I'm assuming that Carolina looks at your senior year schedule pretty hard, do you guys think this schedule would be "rigorous"?

AP Calc AB
AP Chemistry
AP European History
AP Psychology
Honors Anatomy
Honors Law and Justice
Honors English
---(elective?)---

The thing is, I can take AP Calc BC as well next year, but I'm not too sure that I want to kill myself with it next year. I'm thinking about getting a decent job 2nd semester next year and just relaxing a lot more, I'm just wondering if this will look good enough for Carolina.

Right now my gpa is like a 4.7 (13/584), but that should go up by the end of the year. The APs I'm taking this year as a junior are: Stat, US History, English, Environmental, Spanish Language

P.S. My EC's aren't that great, but they aren't completely horrible, so I'm hoping my grades/classes make up for my lack of strong ECs.

That looks good: ). I'd say you should aim for As in at least two of your AP classes, and As in all your Honors classes (although Honors Anatomy is pretty difficult at my school). But your Junior year course selection and rank alone are really impressive, so you're definitely fine. No need to worry! Oh, and just wondering- if you just opt for the AP Calc AB, is it a year-long class? It is at my school since we have block scheduling. The other choice is to take Calc AB first semester and Calc BC second semester.

that senior courseload is definitely enough. and dont take calc BC if you dont think you can handle it, because it'll be a pain the butt to contact UNC about dropping it or whatever. the ap's you're taking next year are all pretty tough, so you should be fine

At my school, you can take just one semester of AB if you want. There is also the year long AB course as well(first part honors, second part AP).

I agree with misstinax about the ab/bc calc thing. My friend was accepted EA, then wanted to drop calc BC for the second semester. UNC said that he had to take it or they would have to review his app again. Needless to say, he's still in calc.

Is UNC known to rescind acceptances with a C in calculus AB/BC? (worst case scenario). I mean, I think I can at least get a B if I give calculus my best effort.

I'll probably change my mind about my senior schedule many times over the next few weeks. Right now, I'm considering dropping AP Chemistry for Calc BC on the schedule above. This way I can still devote a good amount of time towards calculus and still avoid a completely killer schedule. Thanks for the help guys...I just want June 2008 to hurry up and come :/

At my school, AP homework load is incredible. If you take 3 APs you won't have a life. So most students only take 2. Plus we are on the block schedule, so the class is 1 1/2 hours long, and lasts all year. It is incredibly crazy. (Each AP has 1 1/2 hours homework minimum per night).

Anyways my point: I took BC Calc last year, and got a B-. I got a 4 on the exam and 5 on the subset. I took APUSH also, and got an A- and a 5 on the exam.

I do have very high SAT scores, and unique outstanding leadership and service activities.

I tell you this only to say I was admitted early action to UNC out of state. So don't feel it is mandatory to have a full load of AP and all As. There are many different combinations that will get you admitted. There really is so much to all of this that is the luck of the draw. I am evidence that you can get in with a B-.

A friend of mine took only 2 APs his junior year and 2 APs his senior year and was selected Robertson at both Duke and UNC. So I guess I'm saying, take what fits you. Take what you can handle. Your senior year will be a very busy one, college apps are a courseload of homework all in themselves.

One thing I did do was make sure I took advanced classes in math, science, english, foreign language, and history to get a wellrounded foundation in school.

Good Luck. I took AP Econ and AP Euro this year just because I like the classes so much.

Cubsfan23, your plan to drop AP Chem in favor of AP Calc BC might be a good idea. AP Chem will be an extremely difficult class for you unless you are a natural at chemistry. AP Calc BC will look just as good. I had a bad experience in Calculus AB last semester (I did fine, but I had a horrible, indifferent teacher), and I am in BC this semester. I've got a great teacher, and it is going well so far. My only problem is that my class is almost all psycho Juniors who get 99s on everything and still whine. Very irritating. But AP Chem was a major, major pain. The labs always took me hours and hours. Calc BC will be much less work, at least. You've still got time to decide, so don't stress about it now: ).

A.P Biology
A.P English Language and Composition
A.P Calculas BC
A.P Microeconomics
Linear Algebra And Differential Equations
Computer Technology
Intel Research
General Psychology (at a local college)
Contmporary Issues in Politics (also at a local college)

Alright, I finally decided on my senior year schedule if anyone is interested:

AP Calc AB
AP Calc BC
AP European History
AP Psychology
Honors Anatomy
Honors Law and Justice
Honors English IV
Lessons of the Vietnam War/Recent International Relations

wow still pretty tough for senior year..have fun with that lol. is ap euro and ap psych very difficult at your school? because those are the two toughest courses at mine, and im glad i didnt take both in the same year

At my school Psychology is one of the easier APs. European History is kinda hard though. We have block scheduling (4 courses per semester), which helps deal with the amount of work. But yeah...Senior year is gonna be a lot of work, but I just want to do whatever I can to get into UNC. It's always been my dream and I think my gpa and my difficult schedule will help, especially since I don't have great ECs.
