Hey, i will be applying to selective schools like Duke ED, UNC, UVA, etc. Is my senior schedule rigorous enough?

1st Semester:
Honors English 4
PE 2
AP Calc AB
Honors Debate

2nd Semester:
AP Env Science
Honors Spanish 3
Sports/Entertainment Marketing
AP Calc BC

*Major will be business related (economics, finance, etc.) My school is BIG and understaffed and it would be VERY hard to change classes but might can get out of PE2 and into honors class or maybe a 3rd AP 2nd semsester if I plead with my GC.

*AP Calc is only 1st semester AP offered at my school.

So is it "rigorous" enough in your opinion?

just going to be blunt. feel free to curse me out in a pm if you desire.

There are kids at my school (which is one of the better publics out there) who get rejected from duke with near perfect GPAs and a cumulative 12 APs. I really dont feel that two periods of APs a day is gonna cut it for those kind of schools. Hell with only one semester of english and no history class your senior year im not even sure many elite schools will accept your applications.

that being said, its a shame that it was drilled into your head that it had to be an elite school or nothing. THere are plenty of good schools that that schedule would be fine for.

no problem, thanks for being honest. and im not necessarily going Duke or bust. I would be fine with in-state schools its just that Duke would be my first choice. In response to your specific criticisms:

My GPA is "near-perfect" and im 3rd/550 or so in the class, but obviously so were the people u knew who got rejected (with a much tougher schedule)

About history: I took both AP US History and AP Goverment Junior Year (made A's and 4/5 on exam)

Obiously, im not attending a top public; an avg one in a rural area that doesnt offer many APs. I will be taking like 5/8 offered but in comparison with classmates, that will probably be in the top 2 or 3 as far as AP participation is concerned. Will that fact make my chances any better than the "slim to none" portrayal you displayed earlier? If not, thats fine. The elite school only mindset hasnt been drilled into my head, i was just requesting input. Also im in-state for UNC so do you think the sched would be adequate there? Thanks for being honest

Colleges want to know that you're seeking the most rigorous courseload available to you. The way it looks, you are doing just that.

It's simply unrealistic for Duke (or any other school, for that matter) to expect you to take equivalent amounts of AP courses as kids who go to more competitive and rigorous privates. Thankfully, colleges realize this and will analyze your performance in reference to other applicants in your situation. You should be comfortable as long as you are taking the hardest classes available and getting good marks.
