Senior Year Grade Drop! Help!

Hey guys this is my first post on the forums! I had to give a speech infront of my whole school last week and it counted as 40% of my second semester english grade. I have a huge fear of public speaking so I did horribly on it. I froze up infront of everyone and didn’t do a good job of presenting my speech. I feel devastated because I worked so hard on my speech and it completely killed my grade. In english I had an 89% at midterms, a 94% in the third marking period, and so far my grade has dropped to a 60% for the fourth marking period. I am only half way through the last quarter so I still have time to bring my grade up. I still have finals and I think there might also be some missing assignments that I forgot to turn in by interim time so that might also help my grade. I just wanted to get opinions on how serious this is… I have maintained all my other grades and even improved my AP Bio grade as well… if I do get a letter confronting me about my grades do you think they will understand if I explain the situation to them?

Odds are that if you don’t actually fail the class a grade drop in the class won’t get your offer rescinded.

If you had a speech that was such a big part of your grade…Did you practice it out loud? In front of small groups? Did you work with your teacher?

The first thing I would do is talk to your teacher. Tell them what you did to prepare…e.g. if you did a bunch of research, practiced, etc. Talk to them about how you understand that public speaking is important and that is why you were given this opportunity…but that you have a fear of public speaking so froze up. Ask what you can do? Are there other opportunities to speak?

In college you won’t have that opportunity to turn in missing assignments…you will lose points over time.
