For grades 9 - 11, my final year grades have been "A"s, with one or two A-. However, right now in first semester senior year, I think I will have an "A-" in AP Calculus and IB Biology, but an A in the other 3 core subjects. Will this be a major negative when I send in the midyear report, or are A- really not that different from As?

There’s no difference between an A and an A-. Some schools report an A- lower on the GPA scale than an A, but I’m pretty sure most colleges recalculate it so that they are equivalent. If your school does not report an A- as lower than an A on your GPA, then no worries.

I have the same problem with AP Calculus! I wouldn’t worry about it, especially if your transcript/SAT IIs show that math was always your slightly weaker subject.

So long as you are not failing or dropping significantly (into B- or C territory), keep cool and don’t get stressed. :)

An A- is not the end of the world, especially senior year. It’s fine. At this point, I doubt the difference between an A and an A- for that class will have any impact on whether you get in. Either you’ll get in even with the A- or you’d have been rejected even with the A.

Your GPA is already in the super high zone, so if your SATs or ACTs are also up there, one or two A-'s a year is nothing to worry about. The other parts of your application for the Ivies is important as well … leadership and depth in an area that you are passionate.

I do agree with some of the others … relax. Your grades are what they are at this point … enjoy your senior year and don’t waste the next 3 months waiting for the Ivy results to come back.

are you seriously asking this question…
a more appropriate question would be I went from an A to a B is that bad?
not A to A minus.
People get some B’s and still get into ivy leagues, I think you have bigger things to worry about than an A minus because I can tell you that, that isn’t what is going to get you denied. Even if you had a high B you would be fine…

But what if its a B+???
Ok, whatever. I’m just going to try my hardest and hope for the best. That’s been my policy throughout high school and its really the only thing that makes sense.

Well if its a B+ you may as well not apply to any college. Hopefully the local community college has room for you so that you can get your abysmal grades up.

It’s more poking fun at you than actually trolling you. Many poster’s have echoed what I said and the same thing- YOU’RE FINE. A B+ in first semester senior year also won’t be the reason you don’t get in. the college admissions process is HOLISTIC.
