Senior Year Grades...bad

So I received one of those emails from UCLA stating that they wanted more information and all that jazz. I filled out the application (2 essays) but it also included a request for senior year grades (first semester) and second semester classes. I know my essays were good, but will my grades jeopardize my chance at admission?

ap calc-c
ap lit-c
ap comp sci ab-b
ap gob-a
ap physics-c

thats 3 c's one b and one a.

If they are interested in me, and I wrote very compelling essays, will my grades be a big enough factor to deny admission?

Yes. 10 char

I read someone in the UCLA forum stated that even if you're already admitted to UCLA, you can't have more than 2 Cs per semester.

That's bad. I am sorry, but I don't see much chance of you getting into UCLA.

^ or Berkeley, for that matter.

wow im about to cry... is this for real? can anyone confirm this for sure? is it stated anywhere at the ucla website or is it just speculative opinion?

I really really want to attend UCLA and i used the supplemental application as my chance to make myself an even stronger candidate. Is there any chance my extra-curricular activities will make up for my grades? what about my demanding class-load of all AP classes? is there anything I could do now?

I heard that for Berkeley and LA require at 3.0 unweighted during your senior year, so it doesn't look good for you. However, they might make an exception since you've showed such a strong interest in the school.

also, thats ap government not ap gob

thx for your response. i wonder how often they make exceptions

bump to top!

do you think I could use my work as an excuse for lower grades if i email ucla what should i do?

i read this article back in 2004 how a kid got recended for not telling the college about it problem(Davis). You can pray that your colleges will put you on academic probation in your first year if you think you can get your act together. And i believe colleges will count your C's as at least 3.0 because of the AP scale. good luck.

SEND THEM EMAILS!!!

I think they mean 3.0 unweighted

...unweighted...really? I didn't notice unweighted for my UC irvine application...oh crap.
So basically if you just mess around your senior year taking regular classes to get the A...it would save you?
I doubt the colleges would like you to stoop to that level of meeting their requirements.

It's not the same for UCI. It's 3.0 weighted for UCI. The senior year courseload is very important. If you get A on easy subjects you won't be competitive either. But if you take a lot of APs make sure you can at least get A/B and not too many Cs.

by getting that e-mail, it means that you're already accepted? cause that's the first time i've heard of anyone getting e-mails from ucla. sorry if this strays away from original topic.

^^ it means they're borderline. It's called augmented review.

To the OP: perhaps you can explain why you received those grades to UCLA?

UC doesn't send out decisions until late March.

its called a supplemental questionairre. it reads like this:

"Dear ******,

Thank you for applying to UCLA. As part of our review process, we would like to give you the opportunity to provide additional information about yourself. This is an optional supplemental component to our review process that may assist our readers in evaluating your application. For more information and to complete this supplemental questionnaire, please visit www.admissions.ucla.edu/supplemental. If you choose to submit supplemental information, please do so within 10 days.

Note that we are still in the process of reviewing applications. Decisions will be available on our Web site at the end of March.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

UCLA Undergraduate Admissions and Relations with Schools"

they proceed to ask you two essay question, and ask you to report first semester grades and second semester classes

can someone give me advice as to what I would write in the email? I have been going through family problems but dont want to seem dramatic. Also will they take the email into consideration, meaning I should send it ASAP. Can i talk about taking a job senior year, which held me back in my education, or will that be looked down upon? I really need to do something if its 3.0 unweighted.

what do you think... do i still have a chance at ucla?

you might think about posting in the UCLA forum, if you haven't already.

i posted under the Supplemental Application thread... maybe i should create me own?

You must mean on the UCLA site ;you are in the college admissions forum.; Senior slacker means try posting here.
