Senior Year Grades, Getting Rescinded, 2 SIRs???

Okay so my senior year grades are kind of sucky.

AP Stats: I'll get a B or C
AP Gov: I'll get a B or C
AP English: I'll get a C or D
Physics: A
Journalism: A
Teacher Aide: A

So as you can see I might get a D in my AP English class...it all depends on my final tomorrow.

But if I actually do get a D...

Then San Diego State is gone bc I will no longer meet the requirements.
LMU is gone bc I got deferred from EA, so they want to see my senior grades, but with a D, I'm done for sure.
And UMiami and Pepperdine were my slight reach/reach schools, so even w/out the D I will most likely get rejected.

So that leaves the 3 schools I have already gotten into. FSU, which clearly states to not get a D, and since it is a core class, I could see them rescinding me. Also with UPortland and Indiana they said it all depends and they wouldn't be able to tell me until they see my final transcript.

But they won't see that until May 29th after I graduate...which is like 28 days late to mail in my SIR. So if I do enroll at IU and then I get rescinded, what do I do? The deadline will have already passed for my other schools.

I was thinking I should apply to Arizona State by their Feb. 1st deadline, bc they accept everyone, and I'm guaranteed admission. So would I be able to send in 2 SIRs. And if IU were to rescind me, I could then just go to ASU?

I don't really know what to do. I never thought I would get a D, but this class is ridiculous. There are 80 kids in AP English and only 4 A's. Even the valedictorians who get like 100% in every class, have B's right now.

So what do you think?

I think you need to go have a serious talk with your English AP teacher and find out what it takes to get a C (or better).

Go study for your AP English exam and stop worrying about getting rescinded and trying to play with the system. You need to get to work.
My son just got into Vassar ED and needs to get his Anatomy and Physiology grade back up, so I just told him the same thing. This is serious. Get to work. (/cyber nagging)

Well I took part 1 of the final today (80 questions), and tomorrow's final is 3 timed essays, so there really isn't anything to study for.

And I'm going to talk to her, but I'm not sure if she'll bump my grade in anyway...because today she was like "i like how you are really serious about your grades now, but you didn't care for the first 7 weeks of the quarter."

But I think she was in a bad mood today...hopefully everything will work out.

But do you know if it is possible to send in 2 SIRs?

thanks...

Go talk to your teacher and your counselor. If you are on a regular schedule and after talking with the teacher feel that you can not pass that class you might be better off asking to be switched into regular English 12 for the 2nd semester and working your butt off and getting an A.
My son ended up with a D senior year in AP Calc.Due to block scheduling his final grade came in Jan. He had a couple of deferrals and was worried. He did have a counselor and MD willing to write him a medical explanation. A severe case of Mono and a school on the block system did not mesh well.

A couple of schools that admitted him in spite of the D. Redlands and Willamette.

I know of someone who sent in two. Actually to Indiana and Univ of Arizona. She graduated from Indiana 2 yrs ago.
I think your counselor should be able to give you some advice. I am sure you are not the first student at your school to have this problem. Does SDSU weigh the AP english grade. Would the D count as a C? They might also be willing to give you conditional enrollment if you take English over in the summer and pass. Another thing to look into is if you could take an English class at the community college in the spring semester that would override the D.

Well 2nd semester is easy, because we spend most of the time reviewing for the AP, so I want to stay in the class. But if I were to switch to a college prep english class, i would get an A without even going. At my school AP/honors are incredibly difficult and college prep classes are super easy. I only went to my college prep history class twice a week last year, and I got a 96%.

But hopefully I did fine on the test today. I'm not worried about the essays tomorrow bc I've gotten a B on everyone this year.

But does anyone know if you can send in 2 SIRs?

Is the D a midterm? Or are you an block scheduling and this will be a final grade?

And I wish my counselor could help me, but sadly I know more than all of the counselors combined. I know this sounds a little rude, but it's true. For college advice, pretty much all of the AP students come to me.

And I'm thinking IU won't even rescind me for the D. I mean my overall gpa for my senior year will still be 3.5. And for CSU/UC schools a D doesn't get weighted. And you need a C in every required course.

I have two semesters in a year. So on my transcript it will say D and whatever grade I get next semester.

don't schools require you to send a mid-year transcript? I can't remember, but I thought some of them do. If so, they will see that possible D long before graduation.

You could very well end up with a problem at all the schools including Arizona not based on your GPA but based on not having completed the required courses. I think all colleges required 4 yrs of English. I would think that most colleges would not consider a D a passing grade.
At our high school there are a few English electives that are one semester. Like mythology. If your school offers something similar I would try to switch out of the teachers aide and add the english elective.

At ASU if you don't meet the 4 year english requirement, you need a 21 on the ACT english section to make up for it. And I have that. Also my friend who is a freshman there only had a year and a half of science, and they say they require 3.

It's Arizona State...they except 92% of applicants....I'm not worried about getting in.

Yep...take action and solve your problem. Work harder next semester and take it as a lesson learned. Translation...make that C/D into a C. If that doesn't work contact your admissions reps at your "safeties" and do your best to explain the dip in grades. Then research some CSU campuses and get your apps in before the deadline to make sure you have somewhere to go. I recommend CSU Monterey Bay as a small CSU with and LAC feel. If you want high quality program and a beautiful/active campus, CSU Stanislaus is a good choice though the surrounding city is not so hot. In So. Cal if you want to stay there, CSU San Marcos and in the North, Sonoma State/ All are good schools where your acceptance will be pretty much a given if the one D is the only one on your record...and you will then have a fall-back plan if the others end up rescinding. Best of Luck!

Good News!!!

I got a B on my english final...so that bumped my grade up and I'm going to get a C for the semester.

So my gpa is most likely going to be a 3.7 weighted.

Congratulations--now don't let senioritis take over second semester. Do what it takes to keep those grades up.

Trust me I have had senioritis every year of high school, I'm just naturally smart so I never had to take notes or study in my GATE/honors classes. But ever since I started taking all AP's since junior year, my grades have been on a decline bc I'm still not trying at all. But oh well I got through them and I've already been accepted to some great schools. (Go Hoosiers!!!) This english class just sucked. But oh well...next semester will be way easier because its mostly review for the AP.

Thanks for the advice...

My son is very smart also, but he knew he had to get good grades in HS in order to have the college choices he wanted. That means working at boring classes with teachers you may not be crazy about. Most of his teachers weren't boring, but you know what I mean. If you drop the ball now...that's up to you.

Umm...were you planning on actually working in college or just continue sliding by?

Naturally smart is the problem. I think you need to improve on your study skills. You will need it in college.
