Hi,

I only have a Junior year rec and because of Stanford's requirement I need to ask one of my Senior teachers. MY school requires us to make EA/ED decisions by Oct 7, so do you think this is enough time to know a teacher and ask for a rec? Also, when exactly should I ask for a rec in this situation? I can't ask for it the first day because its too ridiculous.

Also, is it okay if I have one great rec(Junior year) and one normal rec(Senior year)? Any acceptees get in with only one excellent rec? I'm just worried my senior year teachers won't have time to know me well enough for SCEA.

Thanks

Since when does Stanford require you to get a senior year rec. letter? Or do you have no other junior year options left?

I dont have other Junior year options left. I only know one of the teachers really well and that should be great. Now I need one from Senior year. Am I screwed?

Well not really because it's still possible to get a great rec (though it is harder). If you stand out in class and contribute to discussions early then the teacher will notice and he/she won't need a whole year to be able to write you a great rec.

I got in with one excellent rec and one good rec. In fact, I could have had numerous "excellent" recs, but my GC suggested it would look better to get a rec from the teacher who's class I got the (relatively) worst grades in as it would be more valuable to the adcoms (it wouldn't come off as the generic "s/he is brilliant, and excellent student, etc. etc.). Seems counterintuitive, but hey, it worked.
