Hi everyone! So I go to a very competitive high school in MA (top 5) and I am getting ready to pick my senior classes! So far I have honors film studies, honors marine biology, AP Gov, AP Psychology, regular math and French 5. I am a fairly decent student: a few honors this year (getting ready for AP US history test in may) and I have around a 3.58 unweighted gpa. But the thing that I think sets me apart is my EC’s: Class President, golf and baseball player of the year award, head of children stand up to cancer day at French park (with the help from my brothers and dad), head coach of middle school and elementary school basketball teams and some more. I also will get a rec from the women who works with me for the Fenway event who is the head of Dana farber. The thing is I know I am fine in other areas but I feel that my gpa may be alittle low as I am trying to go to NYU, Tufs, Brandies, or Colby. The thing is that I am unsure if my senior year courseload is rigorous enough. I am thinking about maybe switching out of French for maybe AP environmental science, or Comp gov bc I might want to go down the international relations route. Should I switch out of French? I heard that tufts likes 4 years of language. However if I add another AP, I might be up alittle late the first semester because I will be top of my golf team. I can’t rlly talk to my guidance counselor because I am at a school where everyone takes hard classes and there has been some mental issues in previous years and I know he will caution me to take 3 AP. Should I make this change or do you think I should keep French and take the 2 honors and 2 AP classes?
Thanks
What is regular math there?
It’s called ACP math )advance college prep math) and next year I will be taking the acp pre calculus course I’m not great at math haha
I don’t think it is a rigorous enough schedule for top tier colleges, but that is something you really should discuss with your guidance counselor. This is because your guidance counselor will check a box on the college recommendation indicating how rigorous a schedule you have taken throughout HS. Therefore the guidance counselor’s opinion is the one that really matters.
And I think French 5 would be considered as or more rigorous than AP Environ . Understand that all AP classes are not created equally – AP Psych and AP Environ. are among the less rigorous AP classes.
It is fine to have some reach schools. But be sure to also seek out match and safety schools that appear affordable (run net price calculator) and that you would be excited to attend.
