So my senior year my required classes are:
*2 credits of SRT 4 (science, research, and technology- scientific research project with a mentor-often get published. the capstone for my high school's magnet program.)
*1 credit science electives (will probably take genetics/biotech or organic chem/biochem or robotics/micro controllers)
*AP Calc BC
*AP English Lit
*AP Biology
*AP Chemistry

This leaves me one space. I play the violin and have taken orchestra every year in high school, but I am wondering if it would be better for me to take another AP class in its spot and just play in the concerts, or if it would be okay for me to still take the class.

I had a similar issue. I wanted to take Italian for a fourth year this year, but AP Gov was the same period.

In the end, I decided to go with Italian, even though APs are generally thought of as more impressive.

My philosophy: Taking one extra AP class (say, 5 instead of 4) won’t really make much of a difference; you’re challenging yourself either way. By taking a class, such as Orchestra in your case or Italian in my case, for four years in a row, ALONG with other AP/advanced classes, you show that not only are you challenging yourself but you also have a clear path of interests and who you are as a person. Four consecutive years of a class shows commitment and passion, and I feel like you’ll seem more human than someone who just fills his/her whole schedule with AP classes just because they’re AP classes.

Good luck! I hope I helped.

Thanks, that was actually really helpful.
