Senior yr courses: what role does it play in admissions?

I am currently a senior and am taking only 3 AP courses (2 of which are only 1 semester long) as well as 2 IB courses (that really shouldn't be IB, but they gave them that label because the two courses are hard and the school felt that they should be weighted)
For my school this is certainly not what would be considered "the most rigorous" possible curriculum. The fact is, I have already been through my rigorous curriculum during junior year, when I took 5 year-long AP classes and one honor class.
My concern is, what is with the hype on senior year courses? How come the colleges want you to list them on your apps? How do colleges view the classes you take during senior year?

I have always wondered about this and would love to get some answers
thanks!

The colleges you plan on attending require a final transcript from you showing that you finished the coursework, met requirements, and did not blow off your senior year.

Well, I guess the intention is that your college admission is based on your 4 years of high school classes. Those four years are you college prep. The fact that admissions applications are due to college just after the fall of your 4th year of high school (even earlier in some cases) doesn’t change the fact that they are expecting four years of preparation for college.

So they want to see what’s going on in your senior year, and want you to report on its final outcome as well.

Somehow students seem to have made some kind of mental adjustment the senior year shouldn’t count. (I know my son is beginning to feel that way!)

But it’s part of your college prep, so you may as well get all you can out of it.

^… unless you already know where you’re going, and consequently realize that half the classes you’re currently taking don’t even matter anymore. That’s when senioritis sets in thick.

I happen to be in that boat.

they want u to list so they know if you’re gonna meet their requirement when u graduate from your high school, and to see how challenging your courses are.

they don’t play really much role, for me at least. ur junior year’s grades r more important. i’m taking 2 AP’s just to look good on the application (my school doesnt offer many AP courses), luckily they’r not boring. i don’t even have to maintain the straight-A’s anymore. it doesn’t matter as long as my GPA is at least 3.0 and i don’t get any D, which is easy.
