If I’m applying in 3rd round, would I have a higher chance if I put I-banking research as my first choice versus i-banking corporate finance?

eternitygoddess:

Asking whether you have a higher chance of getting accepted to Research vs Corporate Finance is like asking whether you should go into banking or apply to law school. It all depends on your credentials, resume, essay, interview, etc. You should apply to the program that most appeals to you; watch the SEO webinars if you don’t know which would be a better fit for you. Also, although SEO accepts far more juniors than sophomores, they still accept sophomores for some of their programs. Last year, I applied to CF as a sophomore in their third round, and although I was not extended an offer, I did make it to the in-person interview (which I bombed, and was also my first job interview ever that wasn’t for Abercrombie or J. Crew). Again though, if you are a stellar candidate with a great resume and good interpersonal skills, you will have a good chance at whatever program you best fit into. However, recognize that SEO typically accepts between 5 and 10% of applicants (according to Penn’s career services website), much like OCR. Not to discourage you from applying, but don’t expect that any program is going to be “easy” or “easier” to get into. It’s all really difficult.

Hello, I have applied to SEO Information Technology. I already did my phone interview last week and received an invitation for an in person interview today. I was curious as to whether anyone else here has gone through the interview process for Information Technology and could give me some advice.

Also are there any webinars for the Information Technology program. I did not see any on the site and was wondering if there was anything anywhere else.

Applied for SEO IT for the first round. Had phone interview mid-November and in-person early December. Should be receiving their decision at the end of Feb the latest, according to the phone call today.

Do you mind sharing your experience with the interview? What sort of questions did they ask? What do you feel are the best ways to prepare for the interview?

magicmike is tragically misinformed if he thinks 76% of goldmans trading money came from prop trading. you need to go re-read their earnings. All of goldmans prop trading groups are mere shadows of their former selves, as they say.

@steelersfan17 Thanks alot for making those points… I definitely see where you are coming from.

@BigMike I guess my sources was wrong which was Bloomberg and FT

Just wanted to bring that situation up because it does affect ALL of us even if you don’t know it.

Hello BigMike354!!
I applied for the CF program in the second deadline, had the phone interview on January 15th and got the invitation for the in-person interview. However, almost all the interview slots are full, I wanted to interview in Atlanta but it is full… So, I scheduled it for the first week of February in New York. However, I dont know if I should wait for more slots in Atlanta to open, because they will. I feel like two week is not enough for preparation.
Also, I wanted to know if you could suggest good sources to study for the interview… h
THANKS!

I’m on the second round as well for CF and I was waiting for more slots to open because I felt 2 weeks wasn’t enough time to prep either! I’ve been reading everything I can get my hands on but, I still feel like I need more time. I’m debating on waiting.

hey guys. I applied to CF in the first round, and got accepted in mid Jan. My word of advice is to schedule your interviews as early as possible since decisions are made on a rolling basis. Secondly, unless your a finance major you will not be getting any real technicals. If you can, study the vault guide, but dont attempt to memorize or cram.

Dont get nervous and anxious about SEO. Being too nervous will kill you because the interviews are a little intense. Dont lose your swagger and try to really think a second before you answer a question. Also prepare 2 questions to ask the interviews, in the case 1 is answered or seems stupid given the context, but dont try and ask 5 questions, remember there are other students waiting to be interviewed after you. Also be sure to apply to BB/Boutique/MM directly because a lot of people don’t get SEO. In many cases, I think its a crapshoot given that only ~10% get in. Don’t be the guy who pins his hopes on SEO and then gets dinged with no plan b. At the very least, apply to MM’s/Boutiques that are not SEO partners that recruit at your school.

with that said, i have one question about SEO partners to BigMike or anyone else that knows. If you apply online and don’t get an interview, does that mean you cant be placed at that firm? I understand that getting an interview and then getting dinged is a no, but what about OCR resume drop and no interview offer?

hey longhorns07,

When did you have your in-person interview? Also, do you know which firm you will be working for?

I am still waiting to hear back from SEO, do you know if a lot of people already were accepted? Did they notify you of your acceptance through e-mail or phone call?

LASTLY, for anyone who knows, if you apply to an SEO partner’s regional office and get accepted/rejected does that mean you get accepted/rejected from their partners?

Thanks!

hey

i got a message from them that said that they will notify you by the end of january. if you havent heard anything by now is it safe to say you either got rejected or waitlisted.

I heard they are already telling people that they have been rejected. Again, this is a second story but supposedly, this girl got a call, and they let her know that she was rejected.

Just checked my e-mail. Decision Notifications are up…waitlisted : /

How long after the phone interview did you guys get notified about the in person interview?

If we’ve applied for the 3rd round, around what time will we receive a notification of phone interview, or no interview at all?

eternitygoddess, I applied for the 3rd round and did my phone interview a couple days later.

@Jester.

May I ask what day you applied? And what to expect from the phone interview? Is it in-depth? Or is it just a get-to-know-you 10 minute interview?

Thanks.

@eternitygoddess

Can’t say what day I applied but you get the picture. As far as the phone interview goes, just know the basics. Why SEO, Why the area you’ve chosen, and be able to talk about current events that’s all.
