SEO/Ibanking phone interview

how did you find out??? did they send you a new notification email??

did any one else hear back from seo today?

question: i remember reading something when first applying that if you got into the SEO program, you had to do it? Was that correct? Next year I will definitely apply again to SEO but might not if I am obligated to go if I somehow get accepted. I am going to try to get into Blackstone (lol yea right, but I got a lead so maybe...)

any updates???

Here you go, yet ANOTHER version of SEO waitlist letter:

hey i was accepted to seo but i was just curious if it is possible to change groups that you're in if you want to work in another area. Thanks

i just accepted a position at seo for ibanking, does anyone know if they let you put preferences for the firms available?
and also, i put "no preference" in the app between ibanking, s&t, or research, but im more interested in research or s&t...does anyone know if they give you any leverage for that as well? when i had my interview i said that i wanted research, but i never specified it online.

Congrats to both of you! Just wondering if you got your good news through e-mail or by a phone call? Can you also tell me what time of the day you received the phone call/e-mail? Thanks!

geaux: I dont think so, but ask them anyway. For example, it is harder to getting into some areas than some other areas, so obviously people who get into the easier areas should not be able to switch.

lalala: I have heard that SEO places you by your 'fit' for the firm, so you don't get to choose. What does 'fit' mean? Beats me, it's probably a combination of your personality, your resume stuff, and their available positions.

ok so i made the phone call and it was in regards to me adding IT as a 4th choice, since i've done some programming in the past. No real updates to give, unfortunately.

you know, I've heard that SEO tends to be pretty disorganized and for the waitlisted folks, it's possible that they are NOT waitlisted, it's SEO just didn't get to their application yet.

Hey guys,

I used to used to go to this site a lot when I was applying to colleges (under another name, of course). And now, during 'interviewing season' for some reason I thought I'd check it out again. Haha, nothing has changed - it's still a medium that heightens the anxiety typical to many individuals applying for a position at an organization (to me, I would have been better off not ever discovering it). Nonetheless, it is quite amusing.

The reason I am posting...

is to try to offer hope to some individuals that were waitlisted or have been denied to SEO. I am a third round applicant, I made it to the 'final interview' in Manhattan (so past the phone interview, haha) and now I'm awaiting a decision to be made. Honestly, I'm not very interested in the outcome. In fact, I will tell you that I did many silly mistakes during the interview when asked the case question, "How many X are produced in Y each year."

I do want to point out a few interesting things that occured during the interview. I was interviewed with three individuals. When I forgot the headquarters of X company (my mind simply froze) one of the interviewers siezed the opportunity to say "They're based in ___ for your next interview." I was also mocked at several other times during the interview, despite the calm attitude I maintained. From my perspective, the individuals at SEO were very pretentious (and that's coming from someone going to NYU..=)). I would never want to associate myself with individuals who act like children and capitalize over the nervousness of pure humans. My interviewers weren't even SEO Alumni, and they acted like they were the...best. I only hope that those of you who do run into these kind of interviews (SEO or otherwise) truly think about the value of a company who chooses to engage in such interviewing 'techniques' (or whatever they're called). What does it say about them? Are they really THAT good?

Perhaps it was the interviewers I had, but my response would be NO, they are NOT THAT 'GOOD.' In fact, I might even argue INROADS to be better (haha, I know many of you will disagree with this). Here's why...

Recently, my dream came true and I was offered the opportunity to intern with Goldman Sachs as a summer analyst for their investment banking division. I went through many interviews (phone interview, on-campus interview, and then the lovely Super Day) and none of the interviewers had the audacity to patronize its applicants (of all companies too). I've also been offered other Super Days at top investment banking companies. If SEO was that good and skilled at identifying top applicants to help get into fortune 500 companies then it'd know of a success applicant when it interviewed one. But it's not, and I left the interview site a bit disappointed in the individuals that run SEO.

INROADS, however, did notice a potential and actually helped me prepare for the interview for Goldman Sachs. In my opinion, INROADS is more humble, which is what many top finance companies are look for in applicants: one's ability to be modest.

This post is probably contradictory to many of your thoughts, but I figured I'd bring a different perspective to SEO. If you don't get it, it's quite okay - they really didn't impress me. If you've got a good GPA, excellent interpersonal/leadership skills, a passion for finance and the markets, then go out and apply directly to the company of your choice! I will tell you that Goldman Sach's interviews were unique in that they focused on certain things that SEO doesn't really analyze as much in its applicants.

For applicants who did get into SEO, congrats. Realize that you commit to the program and then 'they' place you with a company they think fits you, you really don't have too much control over whether it's Lehman or JPMorgan that you want.

Again, for those of you who don't get SEO...'wutevs!' Apply directly to the company and perhaps things will work out where you get to select the company you want to work for (that's pretty much the way I see things being played out for me =)).

This post was written on a whim and I will not return to see the outcome of the responses, nor reply to anyone's messages. I do hope that proves to be enlightening to some individuals.

BEST OF LUCK EVERYONE! =)

ps. I am also a sophomore...=)

hitmanultra: i received a call like 2days after they received all my recommendation letters to tell me that i was in at like 6 pm. since i didnt pick up at that time i had to call back in the morning the next day and then they sent me an email with the decision letter.

thanks lalalal

if you were accepted..do you guys mind letting us know at which firms you were placed for the summer?

has anyone heard back from SEO yet, they said the result for anyone applying by Nov 1 should be around mid january
