If you have better things to do, why do you keep posting in this thread?

i am talking of i-banking. i do not plan to do i-banking but i know a lot about it. But i have the right to post on any thread i want isn't that true? and you also have the right to ignore my advice and opinions, non?

I visit like every thread- it is fun reading people's ideas and assertions

i did an investment banking stint at a bulge bracket last summer and met some SEO kids. in general they were a lot nicer and easier to get along than the regular summer analysts. however i think less of a proportion of them got offers, because some of them honestly just weren't that smart. however there are amazingly bright SEO kids too. i know a couple of people who apply to both SEO and all the banks, get accepted into GS/MS, and then join it with SEO. the reason is because they want the mentorship and they believe in the goals of diversity

i honestly think SEO is a good problem though it's not for everyone. if you're a minority who doesn't really care about helping minorities on wall street (like me- i didn't apply last year) and want to be treated like everyone else, don't apply to SEO if you think you can get the job on your own
if you're a minority and are genuinely interested in their goals or simply want an easier way in, then SEO definitely helps

people need to stop posting stupid stuff like, "seo is for pathetic minorities" or "seo sucks" because they simply dont add anything of value. everytime there's an SEO thread there are always haters

cryptography, I hear around 80% or more of SEO interns get full-time offers.

pardon my ignorance, is SEO only for URMs?

yeah I think so. I think it also accepts international student. that is where I heard about it, from a Romanian International student

All INROADS does is get you interviews you still have to impress your prospective employer. Interns with these organizations shouldn't care what other people say about it being a back door and such. At the end of the day these same people are competition and you're getting an advantage , not to mention valuable experience, so I say screw em'. If you have a resource like that use it.

not sure about that. i know seo has not just banking but accounting, IT, law...etc. i think in all the divisions maybe its close to 80% but i'd be surprised to hear that it's 80% investment banking. i don't know you may be correct but i'd be surprised

Well, at least that's the statistic they advertise. And yes, it probably includes all programs, yet the majority of internships are in investment banking.

What GPA do successful SEO applicants have?

yea, what makes a successful seo applicant?

Search engine optimization - CS or related major, courses in marketing, advertising and accounting.

Dawgie and aworldapart: Do you guys even go to good schools? You guys talk like you're better than everyone else, but seriously if you don't even go to a top 3 university then you're just trying too hard and really have no right to bash other kids, especially when there are SEO kids from these schools (myself included). So bash all you want, but the reality is that some of those dumb SEO kids you talk about attend the universities you got rejected from.

So do everyone a favor and drop the ego you have no right to have in the first place.

Also, don't even try to pull the BS and say that SEO is the only reason I have an internship this summer. I got a Superday with Goldman through their regular recruiting and I'm a sophomore. So for you guys to bash SEO kids is ridiculous.

And, IF either of you do happen to work MS or GS and attend the best school and you still think you're the ****, then you're just a douche.

Plus, banking is banking no matter how you get it. SEO or not, we get the same internship you get sucka!!!!

"SEO or not, we get the same internship you get sucka!!!!"

x2

judging by aworldapart's other posts on wallstreetoasis, he's "got in the back door" at columbia since he's transferring in from a semi-target

also he asks really stupid questions on the other forums, so you can simply ignore him

SEO boasts an 8% acceptance rate and attracts applications from students at top-tier schools. It is not a "back door" by any means.

an 8% acceptance rate is extraordinarily high by wall street standards

again i'm going to point out two facts:

1) It's easier to find a bulge bracket job through SEO than through traditional means

2) A job is a job so why not go for it, just be prepared for the anti-SEO comments

SEO is a great program - shame its only for minorities though.

cryptography, what the hell are you talking about? Transferring into an Ivy is MUCH more difficult than getting accepted the first time around as a HS senior. Transfer acceptance rates for top Ivys (Columbia included) hovers around 3-5%. I would know - I transferred into Columbia this year too.

that was more in reference to his SEO is a backdoor attitude; no need to get defensive
