sungminc7: false. My friends tell me that competition for the real good jobs that pay real wages (foreign companies-Korean companies aren’t worth the paper their stock is printed on) like McKinsey is like 100 to 1 even out of SNU. So SNU kids get jobs, but only 1% of them will get jobs that pay anything resembling a real salary. You’ll have to be in the top 1% of your class to barely be in the middle class. If you’re middle class or below in Korea, you’ll never even make it to the middle class. I laughed when Seoul was ranked higher than NYC for cost of living in 2007, and people were talking about it as if it’s something to be proud of. Oh btw, there are kids from SNU Law that failed the bar exam multiple times and can’t get jobs. When you go to Harvard Law, there’s a greater than 50% chance that you’ll get a job, even if you’re being charged with a felony: http://abovethelaw.com/2010/03/harvard_law_grad_brian_schroed.php. I didn’t bother setting them straight because Koreans seem to be too nationalistic to have the sense to see that high cost of living+low pay=worst possible situation. And I thought Koreans were good at math.

Save your money. Go somewhere in the US. Even NYU is ranked higher worldwide than SNU. Opportunities in the US are much greater. Heck, you’re better off going to McGill.

Hi I am a high school senior the Canadian International School. I am interested in journalism and have at 78 average. For honor students its 80 and above. I want to know my chances of getting in? I am planning to study journalism.

snu is great no doubt, but to compare it to harvard?
Im korean, I KNOW SNU is harder than harvard to get into, but its because there are too many Koreans who are up to par level to get into the middle-reach schools of America, and most just apply to SNU (middle-reach = UCLA, UMich, etc.). Now, UCLA and UMICH , etc. are extremely hard to get into, but not as hard as Harvard. That’s what i mean by middle reach.

Anyways, I think Harvard is a better school because… well… it turns out brighter people! It is NOT just for rich snobs, because then, why do they have so many nobel-prize winning alums? I even heard excuses like " theyre bought"…

Okay.

Anyways, back to chance. A 78 average… will not get you in. Especially if you are talking about a C average. In America… that sucks. Im assuming in Korea it sucks too.

SNU admits around 3.5 - 4 % of people, half of harvard accept rate. Most people who applied were in top .5 % of Korean National Test scores (idk what its called), and most apply unsuccessfully (did not get in).

Now with a 78 % do you think you can compete against people in the top .5%? Thats 5 out of 1000 people…

anyways I’m not too knowledgeable about how good of a student you are, or if 78 is a good thing in canada, but its my 2 cents.

Its a B+ in the Canadian System. A 80 is an A. I’m pretty sure with my current grades I have a 80+ avg. I don’t think its possible to convert my grades to a US point system. I asked my school counselor. Thanks for the advice though. I’ll try anyway because I don’t have a reason why I shouldn’t.

Harvard beats SNU in terms of the education you get. Period on that. Who doesn’t get beaten by Harvard on everything?

It’s the competition that really makes the application process to SNU inhumane. I say inhumane, and I mean it. My friends in Korea who’re seniors right now (i’m a korean international living in europe at the moment) sleep on average 2 hours a day and they are literally reducing their life spans and swallowing pills to keep themselves awake to study. The college application scene over in Korea is ****ing crazy.

Just think about it like this:
There are only three ivy league schools. (Seoul aka SNU, Korea, Yonsei)
Almost all of the other colleges and universities are worth **** for getting hired.
Of the three ivy leagues SNU = Harvard only even more exclusive, more than you can dare to believe.

Hey, am a current sophomore from Colombia, and I wanted to apply to SNU by 2015.
My grades are not that good GPA: 3.7, I have a lot of community service hours, I also participate in the volleyball team, I plan to take about 8 APs, but am not sure if they count in korea do they??
I also plan to take like 10 SAT II, and my SAT score is around 2100. I know very little Korean, and I want to study Medicine in SNU, do you recommend me to try to get into SNU or would it be better and easier for me to get into Yonsei?
