Separated parents

I have been trying to fill out my financial aid paperwork but, need help. As of 2001 my parents have been separated and i have been living with my mom. The duration of the separation my dad has gave my mom unofficial child support, since they are not legally divorced. My mom has never worked and does not make an income other than then the child support. My dad on the other hand has good income. From my undertanding the student is suppossed to file with the parent they are living with for the majority of the year so how would i go about registering with my moms information?

She would state how much she is given for living and include any mortgage/rent paid for you both.

Use just Mom’s info, and indicate that she is divorced/separated. Your mom will need to indicate the amount of unofficial child support under untaxed income.

Not that kelsmom need her post confirmed but I’ll do it anyway :)

As far as the IRS and FAFSA are concerned, if they have been living apart since 2001 (or for more than 6 months of the previous year), they are unmarried and you only count the parent you live with most. On FAFSA, anyway. If the college wants PROFILE’s non-custodial parent info, then your dad’s income comes into it.
