My D retook the ACT this weekend. Her top choice is Sonoma and she'd love to apply early, but I don't want them to evaluate her app until they receive the ACT scores from this weekend's testing. Scores typically come out two weeks after, but then they say the school won't get their's until up to two weeks after that. That makes applying more like 1st week of Nov. I hate to have her wait that long. Does anyone have experience/advice on this as it relates to their rolling admissions?

Last year Sonoma held all aplications until the application window had closed. I don’t think they offer an Early Action or Early Decision application. Applications received Oct 1 are considered exactly the same as those submitted Nov 30. There is no advantage to applying early. There is also no disadvantage to having SSU see your previous test scores. They will consider the best one you submit.

Selection criteria for SSU is really simple. They create an Eligibility Index by mutiplying your best ACT score by 10 and adding your CSU GPA (different than regular GPA) times 200. So, a 3.0 GPA and 25 ACT yields an Index of 850.

And this one for info on the CSU Index.

For all but nursing an index of 795-800 (3300 w SAT) is probably the threshold for admission.

Thanks CalRent. It says on the app page that it’s rolling; the sooner you apply, the sooner you’ll hear back. We auto sent the first scores. Her major, business, has an EI threshold, which she makes. I’m probably being paranoid, but I’ve seen some weird things happen.

My son was accepted as a Biz major at SSU last year but chose another campus (Chico instead). Perhaps they did things differently last year because Prop 30 was pending during the application window. SSU updated his portal to reflect admission on 12/10 (an email came weeks later). There are posts about last years acceptances in this forum you might find useful.

We didn’t get an official response from any CSU until after the application window had closed. Even the schools that were clearly out of his reach. Long Beach took the longest - waitlisting him at the very end of March. That was a frustrating wait!

Yes, I remember those threads from last year and I was thinking how some got theirs by Xmas and others had to wait until April. I’m hoping for her to be in the earlier group. My son is in his 4th year at LB. Is that where your son ended up going?

Thanks for remembering - he’s at Chico and is LOVING it!

I just wanted to post a follow-up in case someone has this same question. We received the ACT results on Monday, two weeks after the exam. We did the application the next day. There was room for two sets of test scores on the application and since we knew the scores we filled that area in. In the instructions, it says to fill in the date only if you haven’t received them yet. Once the application is complete, you’ll be able to go into the ACT Scores Manager. If you left the info blank, wait for the final test scores and then go into the Scores Manager and release them to the schools. Basically, you’d be doing two rounds of releases instead of just one.

I’m really not convinced they do rolling admissions. My D applied last year in November and didn’t get her acceptance until almost the very last day. And her eligibility index was well above minimum.

She is there this year and really loves it so far.

crizello,
I remember your story. It was baffling. It seems silly to keep the rolling admissions information on their website if they no longer operate that way. I do remember some got notified in December, so I figured better earlier than later. I hope we don’t have to wait until April.

We don’t know anyone that goes there, so I’m really glad to hear your D loves it.
