September 2010 ACT Math Discussion

what was the one about the movie??? both the first question about it and the 2nd question about it

-3 is probably around 33-34

Lol, i didnt know that 0 is a rational number.

^I agree with Galib. The question was asking how many screends would a 10 million dollar movie have been shown at.

umm…like how many screens were showing? idk…at some million$…im 99% sure its 2700 or E but just throwing answers out there

yes 2700.

and webass google it and you will find out that zero is a rational number

The answer for which one would make it rational is Tan X (degrees) I think, at least that is what I put. I remember putting it in my calculator and checking it.

I’m not good at Math, and I thought this section was pretty easy compared to June. Anyone else feel the same?

^False.

tan(pi) in degrees is not rational. sin(pi) in radians is.

wait, i’m so lost. i know this keeps getting mentioned but some are saying they chose sinx and some tanx. from my recollection, both answers gave you 0…ahh help, someone please post the question, answer choices, and answer with explanation if you can!

tan(pi) in degree is .055…which isnt rational…sorry man

what about the one with a cube? that wouldn’t work I though.

^If X equals Pi, then which of the following is rational.

Set your calculator to radians and do sin(Pi). You get 0.

Set your calculator to degrees and do tan(Pi). You get .058xxxx

you have to change your calculator’s mode to degree for the tan one…you can do that by mode, then go down to radian, and press right.

For the tan of x…change your calculators mode to degree from radians.

Steps to change your calculator.

1) press mode
2) go down to radian (3rd down)
3) press right to degree
4) put in tan(pi) and you get .055 which isnt rational

does anybody have a general idea as to the number of questions one can miss and still get a 30 on the math portion?

actfan, my guess is 6-7 questions…i’m not entirely sure though.

^Probably 8.

5-7 depending on the curve

there’s no way of getting a 36 if you get one wrong though? lol
