@ZainSD I was told the opposite by a tutor. He said you will pick up more points consistently if you always guess the same letter. And this makes sense if you think about it. With changing the letter each time, you run a higher risk of actually getting all of them wrong, especially if you didn’t eliminate any of the choices (which was my situation since I ran out of time).
what is none of the answers are D?
You’d still have a higher chance if you selected one option. It’s what I did; on the last eight questions of the Math section, I marked them all as A and got around 4 right. Got a 30 on the Math section thanks to that.
This might work for the maths sections.
It might work for all sections. It’s simple probability, you’re more likely to get the correct answer if you stick with one option.
How are you guys practicing the different science and reading passages?
Just do practice papers. If you are good with timing, new or old passages won’t make a difference.
After I have completed the Real ACT Prep Guide, what book should I buy? I’m trying to go from a 34 to 36.
Same here. I got a 32 Composite with no practise, but reaching my goal of 36 seems to be stretch even if I revise all summer.
I got a double perfect score for the SAT 2s, so now my mom wants me to hit a 36 for the ACT.
Any advice for the reading section?
@conner10397 Use PR 1296 ACT questions.
If possible buy The Black Book or The Ultimate Guide to ACT Reading for the Reading section @richardshaw
Hey I got a 26 in April and I want to improve to a 29-30 area.
I got a 23 English, 30 Math, 26 Reading, and 24 Science. Do you guys have any recommendations on how to improve in English and Science I would really appreciate it! Please help.
Hey guys, freshman here :
I took the ACT this June and I want to bring my score up to a 30 or above for September
27C
30 English
Tricky, I thought I scored lower
30 Math
Easy, I thought I scored higher
21 Reading
So hard, ran out of time and guessed on so many
27 Science
Super hard, guess on a lot as well
What can I do to improve my Reading and Science sections? i have major troubles with timing on those sections. I am taking it again in September. Thank you
@sIronMan For English, try going over all the grammar rules that you tend to miss on tests. Try to finish with 5 mins remaining too
@chelseag89 What books do you recommend, I have the Barrons ACT one and the ACT Red book
@sIronMan I recommend Barron’s 36 (or any Barron’s book, really). The Red Book is great for practice, but if you’re trying to know how to do the questions, Barron’s is the best in my opinion.
@sIronMan Do you have any tips for me on reading? I have trouble with timing.
@chelseag89 Thanks man! Okay for Reading I know this sounds really lame but read books is really helpful. Like over the summer finish a novel then take the reading section you’ll see a massive improvement and keep on doing that process because the ACT’s reading questions are easier than the SATs in my opinion and by reading books you speed of reading increases and your ability to comprehend material faster. Good luck!
I’ll be honest with you, I don’t think reading books leisurely will help you at all. I took a second practice in Reading only and I raised my score by 4 only by speeding up and cutting down wasted time.
Whether you believe me or not, try to speed read. Skim the text but remember key descriptions. Backtrack only if you really need to. The ACT reading is about speed and speed alone - the same with the Science section.
All the best!
Anyone have experience with Prep scholar for ACT? I’ll be a senior and it will be my first ACT
