Hi guys. So my composite score for the June ACT is a 29. I didn’t review at all for it so I’m impartial. I have recently purchased a few ACT review books and have already started going through them. Do you guys think I can score a 32 or higher if I review 1 to 2 hours a day until the September ACT?
Thanks.

One tip that I have for the reading section is to minimize subvocalization which is basically sounding out words in your head as you read them. I never realized how much I was doing it and how much it was slowing me down. Eliminating subvocalization takes a lot of practice but I now try to force myself to read only with my eyes and not sound out words/move my lips as I read. I have been able to finish the reading section in practice tests now with a few minutes to spare whereas before I couldn’t even make it to the fourth passage. Just Google “subvocalization” if you want more info and tips.
I got a composite of 25, but my reading and English isn’t that big they are 23. I also have a 27 in Math, but i was hoping for a better score. Anyone know how to improve them?
@Sreekuttan practice.
I did decent on the SAT, so I decided to try out the ACT. On my first time, with little to no practice (only doing first 2 review tests in ACT red book) and very few real ACT tests, I was able to pull a 29C with 11/12 on essay. I am going to do A LOT of prep over the summer so I can hopefully pull a 32. I have no idea what books to buy, I used the red books and the tests are really easy. I need reading and science prep mainly.
Hey guys! I’m going to take the september ACT. My scores right now are 33 E, 31 R, 28 M, 30 S… 31 composite… Does anyone have any study tips for math? I’m going into junior year and I will be taking precalculus, so I have just finished algebra 2. My biggest weakness is the geometry section, with circles, angles, pi, etc…any tips? If I could get my 28 to a 30 and my 30 science to a 31 and R to 32, I’ll get my target score which is 32 Composite. Sigh.
When does the new ACT writing take effect?
In September.
I got a 29 for Math in the June ACT, and I’m pretty sure that score stemmed from my lack of advanced trig knowledge. What trig concepts are absolutely crucial to know for the ACT math?
Hey, so I took the act for the first time in June and got a 35C. (36E, 33M, 36R, 33S) do you think I should retake since my math score is so horrible? Or do you think my score is sufficient for schools like ucsd, ucd, uci, and ucla?
@sprights The only tip there can be is to learn all the formulas (circumference, area), and the values of angles (e.g. central angle equals the arc). Khan academy has plenty of good lessons on the topic. Also, of course, try doing as many practice questions as possible.
@polarizes You need to know the definitions of cos, sin, tan, sec, and csc, and that sinx=sqrt(1-cos2x) and cosx=sqrt(1-sin2x). I do not recall seeing any other trig identity used on the ACT (aside from the law of sines and cosines, but they give you the formula), so truly no advanced knowledge of trig is necessary for the exam.
@collgefreak You’re not serious, right? A 33 is good. Never call a 33 bad.
Can someone explain whats exactly happening to the ACT is it changing completely or only one section?
@collgefreak you got a 35C…for your own sake, don’t retake the test…
@aposnova do you happen to know where I can find a cheat sheat with all of the formulas? Thanks!
What will change about the sat in september?
@Kat2016
The SAT will change next year, not this year.
The SAT is going to change in 2016, it’s still the same. @Kat2016
Oops I knew that, I meant to say ACT. So is the essay the only thing that will change for September?
