***SEPTEMBER 2015 ACT DISCUSSION THREAD***

It seems from the general conensus that English will have a normal curve, math will have a generous curve (hopefully haha), and reading/ science will be either normal or somewhat generous. What do you guys think?

@kingofacademia I think that’s what most people agree with… Praying for a super generous math curve because we definitely deserve it for surviving that!

The math curve should be pretty generous considering how hard y’all are saying it was…in June -3 was a 35

For those of you saying math was easy, I have one question for you.

How.

well… I’m Asian, and I thought math was more difficult than normal, but I’m pretty sure I got all of them except that last question… at least, I hope so.
but in school, math is my worst subject… but for standardized tests, it’s usually my best. not sure why haha

@ZainSD lol it was so hard man. I almost Christmas tree’d the last two columns lmao.

Thank god for superscoring.

IMO Math was the easiest section. I answered all of them with 5 minutes to spare. I hope reading and science have generous curves. They are my weakest, and they felt a bit intimidating than usual.

A guy that I know finished the math section with 20 minutes to spare. I personally guessed on 5 math questions and 2 reading questions. Everything was easy except for math and the time given for reading (the question difficulty was easy)

@Salutation Reading wasn’t as bad for me. I feel that is probably because I felt pretty interested in the stories themselves. Science was not as bad either, but I did feel very rushed, especially toward the end.

73D. English was normal. Math was normal except for the last few questions. Reading was crappy in the sense that I felt super rushed, but the actual questions weren’t harder than usual. Science did require some background knowledge this time, but I felt like it was way easier than in previous tests.

@arabm2 - Same here. Same test form. Reading and Science were hard for me though.

@Salutation I guess I just wasn’t used to having double passages in prose fiction, idk? I only had like 5 minutes left for the last passage…Not cool :frowning:

Reading was so hard imo for 73D :frowning:
no one feels the same way??

@TheIG19 I bombed Reading, tbh. 73D too.

English: easier than I thought. I checked all of my answers, and even had spare time to check some of them twice. Maybe a 36 - unless I did not notice some obvious mistakes somewhere.
Math: erh… I’m a math person (and asian lol) but I still think that this section is quite tricky. I had 15 mins spare to check my answers, enough for me to check them backwards from 60 to 16. So hopefully I did not make any careless, stupid mistake on the first 16 questions. Maybe a 35-36. Hopefully a 36.
Reading: the dual passages got me confused. I skipped like two questions, then went back to answer them at the end. The middle ones were pretty straightforward, and I think I got them correct. The scientific one, I kinda had some background knowledge about the topic (through anatomy and psychology), so I flied through it. Expecting a 35-36
Science: who said it was easy??? I scored 35 on the Jan ACT, but this time I struggled to understand some passages, and had to reread the graphs and charts. I couldn’t concentrate at all, since my mind was already exhausted from the previous 3 sections. I only had like 3 mins to spare, and checked the last two passages. So … I don’t know how many I got wrong. And I could not recall any specific question from the test too :’( Maybe a 31-35.

73D
English: I didn’t think it was unusually easy or difficult. it seemed pretty similar to tests i’ve practiced with before
Math: personally, act math is my stronger subject, so I didn’t think it was hard. Though i was surprised by the last question XD
Reading: normally i am not very good at reading, but I thought this one was a lot better than the june test. It wasn’t easy but I was able to finish with about two minutes left. (last time, by the time i had gotten to the fourth passage i only had about 2-3 min left!)
Science: I suck at science so much…Even when I rush, I barely manage to finish all the questions. I tried to work as quickly as I could, so my thinking was pretty unclear and i bombed the fighting scientists passage

I’m black.

I feel the same way. The other sections were pretty typical from my mind (though I had a much bigger problem with time than usual) but the math destroyed me. It’s by far the hardest ACT math I’ve seen. I’ve never had a panic attack I dont think, but i think i came close during that section, and math is the main thing i studied for for this ACT. I thought I had it under wraps

Did anyone get form 70E?

English - It seemed pretty similar to every other English ACT I’ve ever taken. Hoping for around a 32/33 because that’s usually where I score around.

Math - Yikes! I’m just not a math person. I’ve taken the ACT three times now and every time it’s just been try to just tread water through the math. In the April ACT I guessed on quite a few but at least finished, and then in the June one I completely ran out of time and ended up bubbling randoms ones for the last 15. At least today I finished in time, but I guessed on quite a few. Just hoping my other scores balance it out

Reading - I’m not sure? Like I feel good about it but now everyone else is making me uneasy LOL… Last time I got a 33 on reading so I hope for the same at least.

Science - Ok on the April ACT I got a 31 on science but there is no way I came even close to it on this one? It was crazy confusing for me half the time? I’m not even sure why because science is usually my strong point. Just hoping for at least a 28/29 on it. The ECM passage or whatever got me crazy confused especially since I was running out of time by the end of it.

Essay - Super easy. I like the new format a lot.

I’ve scored a 29 both times I’ve taken it thus far, and my goal has always been 30+. I don’t really care at this point though, I’m satisfied with the 29 it was just more of a personal goal to break 30 for me. I don’t think I did it but I’m not taking it again LOL, at least I finished everything with time to spare. On to the SAT biology subject test now!
