September ACT 2014 Discussion

It's a little bit early but oh well! Hope all did good on their scores from June 14th.I plan to do re-take.

I've come to terms with my score and they aren't actually bad.Just some more improvement on a few that's all. :x

I made a chat that I decided to keep up for the rest of the ACT tests for 2014.

http://www.e-chat.co/room/9269

Feel free to stop by anytime.

I took the exam june 14th as well, but how are your scores out yet?

I got it the first day they started releasing

I still have no scores. No one who I know who took it at my school has them either. I am from south Florida btw

Btw @SammyxB‌ what did you struggle with the most (without revealing your actual scores) and what do you think is the reason? I couldn’t come to get used to the time constraint so im planning to retake in September

Rising junior here. Would it be ok to take the ACT’s this fall and study for them over the summer, or would it be better to study for the PSAT’s in October instead?

Math and science…I’ve always struggled in these two.Science can be good sometimes though.

I finished everything in time though…time constraints I’m used to …but of course, many of the math questions on ACT I haven’t been taught yet in school / never will be…

@2016bostonian I say try ACT.

Taking ACT in September on a desperate trek for scholarship money.

Shooting for the 36 this september

Shooting for a 29 this september prepping pretty hard so far hopefully i can keep it up till september.

Any tips for bringing up a 32 (32 E, 31 M, 35 R, 31 S) to a 34? I think I can do better on the science/English sections pretty easily, considering those were both on the lower end of the scores I usually get on those sections. The math is what I’m afraid will be harder for me to bring up. I always make stupid mistakes on the last 15 or so questions. Literally nothing wrong until question 45, then I get 5 or 6 wrong because of sloppy mistakes.

Was it just me or did they change the test format for the June test? Is this going to be how for the september test? If so, how are you studying? All the practice books are the old format…

@SammyxB‌ I hear the Red Book is good for those who need help in the ACT math section.

I’m a rising junior and my parents want me to start taking the ACT early, so I’ll be taking it this fall also. Would you it’s recommend the Red Book or Barron’s ACT 36? Is the Barron’s geared more toward kids who’re trying to raise an already high score?
Thanks!

hey guys!! I was wondering if anyone managed to find answer explanations for practice ACT tests? Like the real ones given to us for free every year? They give us the answers, but I really would like some explanations for the reading passages? thanks!! (I’m taking it for the first time in september)

also, can someone explain how the science raw score thing works? I had 4 marks off (36/40) yet I only have a score of 29? I’m a bit confused as to why there are blanks after 37, 38, and 39 on the raw score conversion chart? (I’m still transitioning over to ACT after prepping for SAT for a long time and I’m a bit confused on some things :P)

The Red Book is really just for those who struggle with/want to improve their Math score(The Red Book I’m talking about isn’t the REAL ACT Prep book which everyone should use, but the name for the other red book escapes me atm).

Guys I’m basically out of practice test what do I do? I haven’t taken the barrons ones but idk if I should buy them. And I heard the mgraw hill are easier.

@16jpatel‌, Don’t use McGraw hill unless your absolutely out of practice tests or improving English. McGraw hill is pretty 1:1 with the real ACT English. I heard math is pretty close too. Reading however is way too easy and science I don’t know about.

Pick up a Barron’s 6 ACT Practice Tests if you haven’t already. They’re a good set of practice tests but of course, more difficult. You should do 1-3 or higher on the real one than Barron’s if that helps.

Ok good to know! I will try that
