September ACT Math Discussion

yes it was -3i. btw, what was the answer for the question that showed a figure and was about the height? the height 12 was shown on the figure ; the answer was the new height/// what was the answer/??

Nobody can figure out the hiking question on my Official September ACT Discussion thread…can any of you guys figure it out? we are stuck with 100 or 300

Yea Nitro I’m not really sure which one of us is right. All I remember thinking was
sq((i^2)^2)=sq(i^4)=sq(1)=1
looking it over I just don’t know.

I do know that #59 was 100. Everyone got a double pass leaving 100

u dont square the i…only its coefficient

the thing is cowking, the B term is separate from the * term in the formula i think

if you are talking about the ferris wheel one, look at the first page for an explination

hiking is defenatly 100

SAT2350 how did u get -3i as the answer?

and for the ferris wheel one (if thats what ure talking about)

it was 12+40-40cos(alpha) (pretty sure thats what everyone else got too)

nitro - it said what b value made it the largest though, so im geussing the entire thing was just B
ive never seen a question like that on an act math so, this ACT was much harder than usual (and the problems were so much longer -_- )

and if the B value is separate then -3i would make it the largest, but if it was (bi)^2 then it wouldnt be the largest.

the formula looked like it was only dealing with coefficents and not the imaginaries so thats why i thought it was -3

the a and b values are the coefficients…they dont include the “i” so u would not square the “i”

i^2 = -1, so sqrt (-1^2) = 1. -3 is the answer.

Cowking I understand why we are wrong now. b is just the coefficient in a+bi. It is b^2 not bi^2. Ok one wrong not bad.

what was the answer to the logic one?

beanonionlol they didnt inclue A in the answer though (although it could have been 0 + [answer])

just remind me what the final sentence said, im pretty sure it said which b would give the largest outcome ahhhhhhhhhhhh

they made this one insanely confusing, since its debatable on which way u did it lol

maybe theyll take both (:D)

the answer to the logic one was the last answer choice if im not mistaken…the one that had 2 NOTs

yea thats what threw me for a loop on that problem cow, and yes i figured itw as 0 + [B coieffient]

i think 2 of them had 2 nots,

i put the one that said:

if it is NOT a cat then it is NOT blue

****. Has -1 ever been a 36 on the ACT math?

logic one is last answer

what about the one with A THOUSAND GEOMETRY LINES

lol it had 3 paralells, with a perpendicular in the middle crossing them and a diagonal

last question said one angle was double another

i put 120 for the answer, seem right? (i couldnt figure out the geometry i just said hey it looks a bit bigger than a 90degree angle :P)

My answers:

3i
12+40-40cos(alpha) (I believe this was D?)
120 for geometry angles
the matrix I just added the number individually up?
100 for hikers
40 for angle inscribed in a circle.
logic … if not a cat it must not be blue (E?)

the one with the double sized angle one was 120 i think, but yea what about the one with all the = signs with the tilde on the 10000 lines problem (congruent? lol i havnt taken geometry in forever)

i think i put the one with the 2 lines that were facing upward in a / shape around the center perpindicular line, i think the question was which ones do NOT somthing

Nitro: ya i remember that one, i think i got it right just dont remember what it was (too many letters lol)

i think everyone over thought the 2 angle problem. it was just 2x+x=180. 2x is the larger angle.
