Okay, so I took the SAT in March and scored a 2040 (680CR, 710M, 650). I didn't study much aside from one or two practice tests and I scored a 2340 in December (780M, 760CR, 800W). Now, I know it's a good score, but I can't help feeling that the 1540/1600 seems a little low. Do you guys think that I should try to retake for a 2400?

Definitely Not

what school u aimin' for? and r u aimin for like presidential scholar, those things? cuz in some states u need a 2400

otherwise go do somethin fun or do some activity thats good for college

retake it.

Negative, alpha2400
i don't know if you want to retake it because of your user name (alpha - dominant, or 2400 - perfect score) :), or what, but I think that 60 more points tops isn't very effective. Plus, colleges might even view you as paranoid. I would take some SAT II's (if you haven't already) or engage into activities

Haha, okay, thanks. I'll just focus on scoring well on subject tests. A 2340 is close enough, anyway, to 2400.

Unless you want to be a Presidential Scholar..? That award doesn't have any monetary value, though.

Retake it if you are willing too, but realize this that to improve to a 2400 is going to take a lot of luck.

yea... i have (well, had) a similar dilemma. but im a current senior though, so even if i wanted to, i couldnt. i guess you could retake, just dont screw up too badly on Writing

Hey alpha2400, I also got a 2340. And we have similar usernames. You know what they say about great minds...

Also, don't bother to retake the SAT unless you KNOW you can score a 2400.

Interesting coincidence, eh? I think I won't retake and I'll just focus on getting high subject scores. Thanks, everybody :)

I created a thread very similar to this one with a lower score, and you said "no."

Wowwwww, self-reflection time, lol.

As I recall, your M+CR was higher than mine, Marimare.

How many questions did you miss on each section to get that score?

The score report comes out on the 29th of December, which is after the January registration deadline. That is what it says on my account.

In general how many questions wrong gives you below a 700? Of course I'm aiming for a 800 because you never want to aim below because then you will get below, but if you believe in yourself to get an 800, you have a better chance. How many hard questions are there usually, 10-12? I'm still working to make absolutely sure I don't miss any medium or easy questions, but if I get all of those right, how many hard questions must I answer right to get a 700+?

Also if anyone knows the same for CR and Writing, that would be appreciated too.

alpha--my M + CR was only 10 points higher than yours. However, I completely understand the difference in 10 points. I mean, 10 points is the difference between 2290 and 2300, 2390 and 2400...the latter of those sets of scores has a much different connotation than the former. I would say to keep in mind what colleges you're considering--I heard one guy ask a Harvard adcom officer whether he could take the SAT as many times as he wanted since they were superscoring, and the officer replied that while he sure could, the committee will suspect a severe inability to balance time, lol. If I were you, I would just take an English SAT II to balance out low CR.

alpha...don't be a perfectionist...a 2340 is a really good score...chances are you may end up scoring worse (not really worse, and just probably)....so...don't take this chance.
