Serious reality check.

Hey guys,
So I'm about to be a college sophomore who totally flunked her first year of college because of some stupid decisions. I failed a few classes and ended up with about a 1.5 gpa and put on academic prohbation. I would like to get a totally new start and not even have this college show up on my records. I was thinking about taking online courses to build up a nice GPA and then transfer to NYU, but I'm worried that they wouldn't take an online college transfer student seriously. My other option is to wait half a year and start classes at my local community college, but then I feel like I've wasted a year and a half of my life when I could have been productive. Does anyone have any advice on this situation? I've been under constant stress and pressure over this for several months already with no clear solution. Thanks.

well… you screwed up pretty bad, no way around that. This is not to mean, be discouraged. This could in fact, work towards your advantage. My advice would be to scrap online courses. I know for a fact NYU does not look upon those very highly and it would be a waste of your money. Start at your community college and in your app to NYU show them the mistakes you made and that you are seriously committed to learning with them. This will show maturity and humility, two qualities 18 year olds do not possess. Depending on what your applying to be this could end up being a blessing in disguise. Someone is sending you a sign that you need a change in your life. Maybe new scenery and possibly a new attitude on learning could be just the thing.

Good Luck,

1.5 GPA… You are going to have to climb a steep hill to accomplish your goals now, but do all you can. The poor decision of your past will loom over you of course, and that’s inevitable, but you can still persevere. Good luck.
