Seriously depressed no idea what to do with my grades..

Asian (asianfail), Junior in Highschool
Average GPA: 2.33

Hi everyone, Im currently a junior I'm a year behind in math. E.g. Im suppose to be in Algebra II but im in Geometry. I have no idea where to go in life, I am interested in Cumputer & Information Sciences. I already ended up with a D in Geometry and D+ in Chemistry. I spoke to my counselor and they said that I have a minimum chance of getting in to Cal States, UC is out of the picture (im interested in Cal Poly Pomona). And now im depressed cuz i messed up freshman and sophmore year, I've never taken an AP class yet.........grades are so messed up. IDK any advice & etcetera?

Don’t feel deppressed. Everybody makes mistakes! You will be fine
Generally people who go into Computer & Information science are people who have strong math skills…
It’s still the begining of the year work on getting your GPA up, and dont be afraid to get help from your teachers. If that doesnt work out then maybe you should go to a community college for a year, and then transfer to Cal States

Thanks, ya not that great at math still like computers though, D in Geometry atm (sigh)

Hey, Geometry is probably the toughest course of math in high school. It takes a lot of getting used to and learning how to think logically (which is really helpful later on and will help you in classes like Chem). I couldn’t get it until the end of the year. Also, CSUs nor UCs count your freshman grades. And you can make up a D at a CC during the summer.

I suggest you check out this thread:

Have you considered taking a math class over the summer to get caught up? Geometry in your junior year of high school isn’t a great place to be, especially considering the field you want to go into. Look into tutoring to help you boost your grades up. Once you’ve got your grades under control, try and get in some community service hours.

What are your reasons for not doing well? Is it lack of effort, learning disability? If it’s the former, you can start working harder today. It’s the latter, just do your best.

My paranta say i lack heart in studies, and i believe that i have a deficiency in the math area

You may have to go to community college.

If you do well there, that should help get you into a state university.

Not sure you will do well in computers if you are not good in math.

^ What a nice, helpful post. /sarcasm

Gone, a CC after high school may actually be a better plan for you. Not only is there a spectacular chance of getting in to CSUs, but the transfer rate to UCs (Berkeley and LA among them) is so huge that regular, smart students take the route because of situations like yours.

As to the quip about not being good enough at math to do computers, just keep working at it. Work for understanding, and eventually your brain will get better at math.

Is PCC a community college?
