Low GPA :( Dont know what to do

Hey guys, Today I just figured out my GPA, and I am not happy. I am a Junior in HS with a GPA of 1.8.. I didn't take the SAT yet but got a 1400 on the PSAT's. What should I do? I THINK it is this low because Freshmen and Sophomore year i failed my foreign language classes [Spanish and Italian] and did not goto summer school for it. But this year i promised my self even before I figured out what my GPA was that I was going to kick a#$ Junior year since it is the most important year, and so far I got second honors And studied my a#$ of for Italian and currently getting a A. What should I do? I want to goto college for Computer Science or Computer Engineering, that is my thing i love computers. At this point do you think i will be able to make it to a school like Rutgers or NJIT to presue my computer studies after HS if i try real hard, or will i have to goto a community college first, will any community college in the nation accept me? I am currently trying hard to get my GPA up, and will begin study for the SAT's PLEASE give me guidance.

They have a place for people like you. It’s called community college. Have fun in grade 13.

please, i am serious.

Well. Think of it this way. If you get straight A’s from now on, you’ll get a 2.9. But if you take summer school, that could go up to above 3.0. Good test scores could get you into a decent state school.

So am I. You have a 1.8. At my school, they wouldn’t even give you a diploma with that. And a “1400” on your psat doesn’t indicate that your SAT’s will be stellar lol

what can i take summer schol for at this point? also do you think bergen community college will accept me?

In your position I would just give up on high school. If you want to be a serious student, then drop out, get your GED, and start community college asap. Then you can study for the SAT and have a good transfer application in 2 years.

but wait why should i give up on high school, dont people like/see HS diplomas more then a GED?

Get your GPA above a 2, go to a cc, hopefully get decent grades, and attempt to transfer. And yes, cc’s accept nearly everyone.

Community college is your best bet.

Wow. Just wow. I’ve come across a lot of stupidity on this website and twice as much arrogance. But wow, that statement has to be the single most douchiest thing I’ve ever read.

Anyway, unless you pull straights A’s this year and next year, that GPA really won’t do it for a lot of schools. But check out your in-state options. I know that some of the state schools here in PA require a minimum of a 2.0 average which you may be able to surpass if you work hard. Otherwise, community college is always an option. Again, you’d have to take school seriously there so that you could transfer to a four-year school and earn your bachelors.

Good luck to you.

Try to get into easy state schools. But yes, community college is most likely. They accept everyone, just do two years there, with above a 3.5 and try to transfer to a flagship state school or another university.

Wow…how do you manage a 1.8? In on-level classes you get a B pretty much by showing up.
Hope you enjoy going nowhere in life

Hey man. Heres what you should do:

Apply to Rutgers and NJIT. I believe NJIT may accept you… just study a lot for the SAT to ensure it. If these colleges choose to reject you, go to Montclair State or BCC and attempt to transfer. Just make sure you get good grades at Montclair/BCC if you decide to transfer.

Don’t listen to these haters.

“Dont know what to do”

Don’t hang out here.

I’m being serious. You have two choices: You can start being a serious student now, or you can decide to waste another year and a half in high school - it’s already a waste, with a 1.8!!
If you want to be a serious student, drop out and go full time at community college. That’s really all there is to it, imo. In two years you will only be half a year behind your current classmates, and with a 3.0 you will be able to transfer to a respectable school.
This is your out.
Something tells me that you’re still not ready to take your education seriously, though.

The amount of arrogance in this thread is unreal.

OP: Transfer to a community college. With a 1.8 GPA your high school chances are shot. If you buckle down, it would be very possible to transfer from CC to a state university and so on. Of course, saying you are going to buckle down and actually doing it are very different things. Closely examine why you did you poorly in high school and how you will fix it.

BUT i really dont want to drop out of high school! Cant i just get my GPA up in my last two years of high school, get a decent SAT score, and if Rutgers, NJIT, or CNJ does not accept me apply for Essex or BCC and then from there transfer over to a better college, thats my plan as of now. but i dont want to drop out of high school, i cant.

^ Do what I suggested and you will be fine. Graduate high school, go to Montclair or BCC and either transfer out or finish your degree there.

Ask yourself if you want to take advice from a stranger on the internet, telling you to drop out of high school. The person giving advice could be in high school themselves!
