Service Scholar Program

Do most or all recently accepted freshmen get invited to apply for the Service Scholar Program? We got an e-mail about it yesterday.

My son got one…good question!

I received one as well, as another girl I know that also set up her email.

I might be wrong on this, but I believe that the Service Scholars program is aimed at those that have significant amounts of volunteer hours listed on their FSU application. If you have more than a couple hundred community service hours listed (or you’re involved in leadership roles in any volunteer efforts), I’m pretty sure you should get one of these emails.

Keep in mind the application is supposed to take a while to complete, so get started on it sooner than later if you’re interested, and if you don’t complete the required number of hours per semester you will likely be removed from the program and lose the scholarship. The 75 hours of service per semester (45 in the first semester) that they require amounts to about 5-6 hours per week, so when you apply make sure that you’re willing to devote that much time.

It is a very daunting application.
