I know there was an old thread about this topic but I wasn’t able to dig it up so I’m starting afresh & looking for info/advice/insight into these unified summer stock auditions.
D is a junior BFA at NYU-Tisch. Although she didn’t participate in any summer stock auditions last year, she had friends from other schools who had success with SETC and A1 last year, so she’s decided to try that route. She is set to go to the SETC Professional Screening Auditions in Virginia in a few weeks and planning on submitting for A1 as well. She is auditioning for both acting & musical theatre opportunities…
I have no idea what the stats are for people who are “put through” to SETC audition slots in the spring, and although I am not looking to provide her with advice (I’m done with being a theater helicopter! ), I would like some insight into others’ experiences with SETC & A1. (and if anyone wants to piggyback on this w/info about NETC, etc., that’s cool too).
I know @TheaterHiringCo and several others had some great feedback in an older thread but the discussions there have been closed or have been dormant for a long time). Would love to hear some up to date thoughts. Thanks in advance to everyone who can share.
[sidenote: it’s been a long time since I’ve been on CC…I see things are still just as frenetic as ever on the MT BFA audition scene…sending hearty support to all of the folks who are just going through it. Stay strong!]
@WTXMom - I gave a pretty thorough description of our Ds experience in the thread noted above. So check out all of the information in that thread. But in general, I think both A1s and SETC are worthwhile in doing. I believe our D got the most offers from SETC but I think the quality and experience at A1s was her favorite in terms of the unified types of auditions. Although she really enjoyed SETC as well. The percentage of people put through at SETC depends on your region and how many people audition in that particular year, so hard to say. I believe it is based on your score and not on a certain quota they’re allowed to pass through, but I may be wrong about that.
I believe each SETC prescreen state is allowed to send “X” number of auditionees to the conference. - so the cut-off score can vary from state to state. I remember someone who had previously been a prescreen judge relating that they once had a situation where 5 auditionees had the same cutoff score, but they were only allowed to send 2 of them to fill their allotted number.
