***We have figured this out. Confusingly, a student has both a "username@oberlin.edu" and a "firstname.lastname@oberlin.edu" ID. Anyway, problem solved (but CC won't let me delete my own post.)

Can anyone provide accurate instructions for setting up an Oberlin e-mail account? The "Big Book of Forms" (page 8) instructs the student to go Center for Information Technology, Oberlin College and "follow the online instructions." It says "you will need your username" - but Center for Information Technology, Oberlin College asks for a username with an "@oberlin.edu" suffix - which seems to indicate the student should enter their email name, not their user name.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide!

Username is usually first initial and last name, unless your name is common. For example: “JDoe” is a username for Jane Doe.

Hi Plainsman - and thanks. I knew our D’s user name; I just didn’t expect it to be paired with “@oberlin.edu.” I was thinking that was the email address. But come to think of it, my own POP email accounts have user names that are different from the actual email address. So I guess it makes sense now! I don’t know about your home, but the countdown has begun in earnest here!

Ya, we discovered that JDoe@Oberlin.edu and Jane.Doe@Oberlin.edu BOTH work for Oberlin email. I sent one test email from my own email account to both of the above (in the same email) and they both hit.

Ya, the countdown has begun for sure. But I want my D to get a summer job. She’s never had a job! Summer or part-time. She’s spoiled.
