Several Bs... Am I Screwed?

I unfortunately didn't focus as much of my time on school as I should have during my freshman and sophomore years (my business was taking up nearly all my time). Because of this, a little over half of my grades those years we Bs (all were borderline As and Bs). However, I have straight As this year (junior) and will have the same senior year.

This year, I am taking 4 APs in school, 2 honors, and I am self-stufying 2 APs. Last year, I took 2 APs and 2 honors classes. I plan on getting a 33/34 ACT (currently very close... probably a 33 though), an 800 Math 2, a mid 700s Physics test, and a mid 700s US History Test. I will get all 4s and 5s on my APs this year and should get the National AP Scholar Award.

My main point of my application is my business. I started it in middle school and have since grown it to become a powerhouse in its industry. Its revenue has peaked at $4k a day and I have hired and managed 2 full time employees. Also, I backed out of a $100k+ venture round earlier this school year to focus more of my time on school, and I have flown across the country several times to meet with different companies to work out various deals. In addition to this, I also have the typical stuff like being the president of clubs, etc.

Do you think that my Bs ruin my chances at Wharton? What would you say my odds are? I also applied to the LBW program at Wharton this Summer... Any idea of my chances there?

Thanks so much for taking the time to read through this. If you have just skipped to this last sentence, please be sure to read the third paragraph. Thank you!

Whats the business about, because I recently started a business but its not yet earning any revenue lol.

Regarding your GPA and Grades, the upward trend is the only thing that will save you now.

Not according to the above link. A few people have Cs(one or two) and were admitted. But I think you need to focus on your essays.

Also interested in this business. Can you PM or post a link? Thanks!

Hey guys sorry for the late reply. I don’t really want to post any more information about it on here, but feel free to PM me and I can tell you what the business is.

About the Bs… Anyone else have any input? I am really freaking about them. Also, what kind of As does Wharton want? Last semester, my grades ranged from 91-96 unweighted and this semester they should be from 93-98 with the exception of one grade which will probably be a 90 or 91.

I don’t believe the “type” of A matters. I had a handful of 90, 91, and 92s, but also some 95, 96, and 97s.

These B’s may hurt you. You should compare your grades to other applicants in your school. Three kids from my HS applied ED to Penn (and Wharton), and I was the only to get in. I had straight A/A-'s with one B, and for the other two, one had 7-9 Bs and the other had all As, but a lot of unweighted As (only two honors fresh/soph year whereas I was in 4-5 honors). So don’t worry so much about your grades compared to everyone else applying; I would focus more on your grades compared to applicants from your school. Admissions often talks about how schools have different grading systems and so they don’t tend to compare a kid from Ohio to a kid from Alaska to another kid from Florida. Rather, it is easier (and more logical) to compare within that high school’s applicants.

If your business is making 4k a day why go to college?

^agreed…if you are making more than a million a year, I dont think college is the correct next step…the biz must have floundered.
