Several question and out of state Chance

Are essays and recommendations required? Is not, should I still do/get them?

I'm from another state and now quite sure how the UMinn system works. I want to apply to Twin Cities specifically and to whatever college has Astrophysics and Political Science majors. Academic Profile This page confused me. Are these colleges in the Twin Cities campus?

Is it possible to double major across colleges?

My info:

Male Asian from CA.

GPA: 3.54 UW, 3.69 W. Upward trend
Freshman year: Terrible classes and terrible grades ~2.5 GPA
Sophomore year: Terrible classes (no AP/H) but good grades 3.8
Junior year: good classes (1 AP, 2 H) and good grades 4.0 UW/4.5 W
Senior year: Going to take 5 AP classes

Class rank (9-12): terrible because of freshman year. My school also provides 10-12 rank, which is significantly higher for me (top 10%), if that matters.

SAT:
1st time: 660 R, 740 M
2nd time: 680 R, 740 M
ACT: not taken yet but expected 31+

First Generation

Intended major: Astrophysics and PoliSci

ECs: nothing spectacular. In JSA, Math Club, French club, and Science club. Starting my own club next year. 100+ volunteer hours. Currently part time employed. College level summer math enrichment course at UCLA this summer.

AP: took 10 tests (not classes). Mostly 5's. National AP Scholar

Please answer questions and chance!

Have you really taken the time to read through the UM admission information? Most of these questions could be easily answered from the info they provide you. There is no essay required nor are letters of rec. If you feel that a letters of rec might reveal something favorable that the bare record of grades and test scores does not then you can submit them. Whether they admissions reads them or not is up to them. I’m not sure why the academic profile confuses you but yes, all those colleges are at the U of Minnesota/Twin Cities. If that is where you want to go that is the school you apply to and the only school where your application will be considered. If you want to apply to UMD or U MN Morris, etc, then you must submit an application to those schools. You can double major in two different colleges. If you check your stats against those on the academic profile you can see the odds of your admission to the CLA and whatever college astrophysics is in. As has been stated numerous times on this forum, apply the same day the applications for next year are released or as soon thereafter as you can.
