Several questions: AP credit, courseload and courses, reqs, etc.

I'm in Science faculty, and there are of course various required classes. Off the top of my head, it's 2 levels of basic biology, chemistry, physics, and calculus.

1) Would each level be split between semesters?

2) That would mean 4 required courses in that first semester, so...what is a full courseload (5 or 6?), and can they be anything you want?

3) I got a 3 on my AP Calc BC, 4 on the Calc AB subscore, and 4 in Chemistry...can anyone tell me how course credit is dealt out, and if possible what I might be looking at as far as credit goes.

4) Just so I'm sure, there is no English or language course requirement correct? Most US schools require that but it was my impression McGill didnt.

5) If I wanted to take a non-beginner language course, do they have a placement exam, or do you go meet with the professor to show your ability or what?

1) Would each level be split between semesters?
Yes, fall and winter.

2) That would mean 4 required courses in that first semester, so...what is a full courseload (5 or 6?), and can they be anything you want?
Yes..but freshman courses are limited..Check Mcgill.ca->Science student affair office.

3) I got a 3 on my AP Calc BC, 4 on the Calc AB subscore, and 4 in Chemistry...can anyone tell me how course credit is dealt out, and if possible what I might be looking at as far as credit goes.
You are exempted from Calc 140 and Chemistry 201 and 202 (Not sure about course title..but you don't have to take chem.)

4) Just so I'm sure, there is no English or language course requirement correct? Most US schools require that but it was my impression McGill didnt.
No language requirement..But it would be better to take French course if you have nothing to take..

5) If I wanted to take a non-beginner language course, do they have a placement exam, or do you go meet with the professor to show your ability or what?
placement exam.

I'm not sure about all of these..Check Mcgill.ca to clarify.

^

Awesome. I got a 4 in AP Biology the previous year, so...hopefully I'll be exempted from some of that.

As for French, I already know it very well (5 on that AP exam). I'm not perfectly fluent yet in terms of speech and what not, but I'm sure I will be halfway through next year. Btw, when I said "English", I was referring to like...a writing course.

Ummm...I think that's it, thanks for the good response.

New Question:

I'm reading the Course Calendar with the Undergraduate Programs. I'm a little confused, because it lists approved Majors and Minors for Fac of Science students, and they are all arts subjects. Doesn't your major if you're in Science have to be a science?

You don't have to take placement exam for French if you got 5 on AP. Also you don't have to take Bio in Freshman yr.
And I think there are no required courses other that some math and science..No writing course. But you can take one if you want.
Answer to new question..As a freshman, you can only take courses in the webpage below.
http://www.mcgill.ca/artscisao/freshman/selection/scistudents/approved/
Science courses are in very bottom.
And see this for courses other than art and science..

And this is Freshman requirements..

Thanks. Their site is a pain in the ass to navigate, but yep, that got everything answered. This is awesome, I'm only going to have 3 required courses.

Actually, I'm re-reading te AP site, and it says "The Faculty of Science grants a maximum of 18 credits for non– Science/Mathematics AP credits. The Faculty of Management grants a maximum of 24 credits for non-calculus AP courses."

Does that mean that I'll still have to take the courses regardless (since I'm in faculty of science).

no, all your science APs still count, so you don't have to take bio or chem or that one calculus course. that's more for if, say, you had taken a whole bunch of arts APs and wanted credit for all of them, or if you were trying to get U1 status and hadn't taken any science APs, you couldn't. i do think though that even if you don't get credit for some of your arts APs, you can still use them to get out of low level classes, like if you don't get credit for that french test you can still be in more advanced french classes.
